Stay safe this long weekend ☔️

This long weekend we’re expecting severe thunderstorms, large hail, heavy rainfall and damaging winds across parts of the state from this evening into Sunday.

Severe thunderstorms are possible across the Central West, South Coast, Illawarra and Sydney from today through to Sunday, before moving northeast early next week.

Thunderstorms could bring flash flooding, damaging winds, and large hail, with heavy rainfall reaching up to 100mm in some areas. Minor flooding is also possible across state river systems.

Residents in the forecast areas should be prepared and follow safety advice:

🔸Clear your drains and gutters
🔸Trim back overhanging trees or branches

This week we completed our 10 week Youth Internship Program with 20 students graduating this year. Since the program began in 2023, a total of 84 students have graduated, with 10 former interns now serving as full members of the NSW SES

Throughout this year's program, participants had the opportunity to visit Shellharbour Surf Life Saving Club and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 207 Albion Park, gaining valuable insight into the important role emergency service organisations play within our community.

The Youth Internship Program aims to provide young people with an understanding of emergency services, volunteering, community service, and the development of practical leadership skills that will support them both now and into the future.

Week FIVE of our Youth Internship Program!

This week, we took 20 students to the Shellharbour Surf Life Saving Club 🏄

Our Youth Internship Program provides young people with valuable skills and an introduction to the emergency services sector, while exploring ways to stay safe and opportunities to volunteer or build a career helping their communities.

A huge thank you to the volunteers at Shellharbour Surf Life Saving Club for sharing their knowledge, experiences, and passion for water safety.

The students gained a firsthand insight into the important role Surf Life Saving plays in keeping our community safe and the many pathways available to get involved.
