An important reminder for people in Port Lincoln. 👇

Port Lincoln will take part in an AusAlert community test on Saturday 20 June at 11.00 am.

AusAlert is a new national warning system that sends emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

During the test, your phone, tablet or smart watch may receive a Priority Alert, including a loud siren-like sound and vibration lasting around 10 seconds. The national emergency alert test will sound even if phones are on silent or Do Not Disturb.

If you are in a domestic violence situation and have a hidden or safety phone, you can turn off your device or switch it to aeroplane mode before the test.

During Refugee Week, we celebrate 'A Million Stories'. The 2026 theme recognises the one million people who have been welcomed to Australia through humanitarian programs since 1947.

Each story is unique, powerful and has helped shape local communities. One of these stories belongs to DHS staff member Jamila Ahmadi. After fleeing Afghanistan and arriving in Australia by boat as a 7-year-old, Jamila has shown incredible courage, resilience and determination to build a new life while overcoming extraordinary challenges.

Today, 15 June, marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. We are urging all South Australians to take action to prevent abuse of older people – because safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Abuse often thrives in silence. By noticing, caring and taking action, we can ensure South Australians are respected, valued and safe – at every age.

The Julia Farr Disability Inclusion Grants carry a name worth knowing.

Julia Farr was a passionate advocate for the rights and inclusion of people with disability in South Australia. Her legacy lives on through this grant, funding projects that reflect her commitment to social welfare.

Administered by the Department of Human Services, the grant supports projects that can make a genuine difference: improving accessibility, shifting attitudes, and building communities where people with disability are included.
