Animal Justice Party South Australia

Animal Justice Party South Australia Animal Justice Party South Australia. The only political party dedicated to ending animal cruelty. That’s where we come in.

Animal cruelty is an unfortunate and all-too-common feature of Australian society that must come to an end. Several non-government organisations have been tackling animal welfare issues at ground level from various perspectives to-date, however there’s an immediate urgency to bring much-needed influence to this agenda from a government policy dimension. The Animal Justice Party has been established to give voice to those who have none – to pursue the vital issues of animal protection through the Australian Parliamentary System by:

• Encouraging the adoption of animal-friendly policies by other political parties
• Demonstrating that voters care about animal issues by contesting elections
• Educating the electorate about the animal policies of candidates from other political parties. What we aim to do:

• The Animal Justice Party will actively campaign at a government policy level against animal cruelty atrocities relating to wildlife destruction; factory farming; animal transportation; companion and domestic animals, pet animals and the use of animals for sport and entertainment.
• We’ll advocate the toughening of animal protection laws; an increase in penalties for convicted animal abusers; the regulation and restriction in the sale and use of pets, and enhance education in greater awareness and appreciation of the needs of animals. We believe that through the formation of the Animal Justice Party, and with the support of the many like-minded, concerned animal lovers (and voters) throughout Australia, real and urgent changes to the way in which animals are treated can be made. Yes, we were in the minority.
But that has never stopped animal advocates from calling out animal exploitation.
Here’s some pics from last weekend’s demonstration at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, in protest of Professional Bull Riders (PBR) event.
Thank you for Animal Liberation South Australia for organising this demo - we were proud to stand in solidarity.
Our message remains:
- Bucking isn't a performance - it's a bull trying to escape.
- Deliberately provoking fear In an animal is not entertainment.
- Events such as these have already been banned in the ACT, and it’s time SA did the same.

SA's greyhound racing industry puts profits before the wellbeing of animals. It received $4.3 million of government funding over the last two financial years - and your taxes are funding this industry.

Watch AJP SA members speak out on why this industry needs to end. 🐾

Bucking isn't a performance - it's a bull trying to escape.

At bull riding events, bulls face isolation, confinement in chutes, blaring music, fireworks, flank straps, prodders, spurs and tail-twisting. All used to provoke fear.

The ACT has already banned these events. There's no reason SA can't do the same, says Animal Justice Party South Australia Convener Lionel Pengilley.

Animal Liberation South Australia is organising a protest TOMORROW NIGHT, Saturday 22 August, 5.30pm at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, to stand up against this animal exploitation. Link in comments.

“We’re not protesting athleticism, we’re not protesting tradition, we’re actually protesting the normalisation of an animal’s fear as family entertainment, and we’re asking this community to look honestly at what it is actually cheering for.”

Animal Justice Party South Australia member and 2026 state election candidate, Padma Chaplin, today spoke to InDaily about the protest planned for the upcoming Professional Bull Riders (PBR) event on Saturday.

The Animal Liberation South Australia is holding a protest at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre to coincide with the PBR event - to send a clear message that fear is not entertainment.

🐂 Fear is not entertainment! AJP member and 2026 state election candidate, Padma Chaplin, spoke to InDaily about why Animal Liberation South Australia is holding a protest on Saturday.

“When an animal is confined, agitated and then released into an arena solely so that its panic can be marketed as entertainment, we are no longer looking at sport.”

“We’re not protesting athleticism, we’re not protesting tradition, we’re actually protesting the normalisation of an animal’s fear as family entertainment, and we’re asking this community to look honestly at what it is actually cheering for.”

Concerns over animal welfare have been triggered as bull riders return to Adelaide, but its organisers say their health is a top priority.

Animal Liberation South Australia is protesting the return of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) event to Adelaide - and is speaking up for bulls who have no say in being provoked and frightened in front of large crowds for profit.

This is not an AJP SA event, but we're sharing in support, and concerned members of the public are invited to join them.

As some may already know, this week different AJP State branches (including AJP SA), wrote to SBS demanding they stop broadcasting Professional Bull Riding.

This PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour is touted as 'man vs. beast.' But bucking isn't a performance - bulls are trying to escape. At these events, bulls experience:

- Isolation from the herd, confinement in chutes
- Loud crowds, amplified music, bright lights, fireworks
- Flank straps around the sensitive underbelly
- Electric prodders, spurs and other aversive stimuli
- Striking, kicking and tail-twisting to provoke fear

Bucking is fear, not fun. Details of the protest and RSVP in the comments.
