Our 'Get Voting' experience was a popular lunch time activity at the Active Citizenship Convention, giving students a chance to cast a ballot paper and experience what voting is all about.

Thanks to all the students who participated and asked questions about voting and enrolment.

What a fantastic 3 days at the Active Citizenship Convention.

We have thoroughly enjoyed facilitating the 'Get Voting' experience led by Education Officer Paula, alongside ECSA staff and Department for Education, South Australia volunteers.

Over 650 students had the opportunity to have their names ticked off on the electoral roll and cast a ballot in our mock election during their lunch break. Results were also declared and announced before the end of the day.

Thanks to all the students, teachers and support staff who participated and had a chat about voting and enrolling!

📩🏫It was a fantastic first day of the Active Citizenship Convention at Adelaide Oval, a three-day event bringing together Year 10 students from across SA to explore democracy, active citizenship and the importance of their voice and leadership.

Now in its second year, this convention is an opportunity for students to engage with community leaders, government representatives and changemakers through interactive workshops, discussions and hands-on learning experiences, while building the knowledge, confidence and skills to become informed and active members of their communities.

Our team, led by our Education Officer Paula, is proud to be facilitating the 'Get Voting' experience again. For many students, this will be their first time casting a formal preferential ballot and learning how Australia's voting system works.

We will also provide information to eligible students aged 16 and over that they may be able to provisionally enrol to vote, helping raise awareness of their opportunity to take the first step towards participating in Australia's democracy.

We're looking forward to the next few days and to inspiring the next generation of engaged citizens, leaders and changemakers.

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia. Next Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The test times in South Australia will be at
2:00 pm AEST.

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds. If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.
