👋 Meet Murray and Luke – a father and son duo who don't just share a last name, but a workplace too.
Luke is a Registered Nurse (RN) and has been working alongside his dad at Waikerie Health Service for the past four years.
“It’s certainly different having your dad as your boss!” Luke says.
“I’ve grown up around the hospital, with dad being the Director of Nursing (DON) for more than 25 years, so it’s cool to be working alongside him now.”
“Over the past four years working here I’ve learnt a lot professionally from him, but we also have a laugh; and he’s lucky to have me around.”
Murray says working alongside Luke has been very rewarding.
“It’s been great to watch him grow and develop in his nursing role, not only in his skills and confidence, but also as a leader,” Murray says.
“Seeing him take on greater responsibility and become someone others look up to has made me incredibly proud. It’s a privilege to see the person he’s become, both professionally and personally.”
The family affair doesn’t stop there – Murray and Luke also work alongside Wendy (Murray’s wife and Luke’s mum) who is the Advanced Nurse Midwife Education Manager for the Riverland Mallee Coorong Local Health Network (RMCLHN).
We're wishing Murray, and all the dads across South Australia, a wonderful Father's Day.
