Everyone has a different quitting journey.

What works for one person may not work for you. And while some people may find quitting smoking and va**ng relatively easy, for others, it is a struggle that may take many attempts.

The good news is that there is always something different to try. Every quit attempt you make will give you skills and knowledge that you can take into your next, possibly successful, quit attempt.

When Anica Lulo was just 4 years old, she was diagnosed with cancer.

Travelling from Alice Springs to the Women's and Children's Health Network, she began her treatment at the Michael Rice Centre for Haematology and Oncology - and quickly won the hearts of everyone around her.

"It was a very stressful time for her and her family, and they faced it with courage and bravery," reflects Edmondo, Nursing Service Director of the centre.

On 14 April, that courage was celebrated in the most joyful way. Anica rang the centre's end of treatment bell.

The bell-ringing is a long-held tradition marking the completion of cancer treatment, and for many families it's a deeply meaningful moment of closure.

On this day, Anica was surrounded by family and friends - some travelling from interstate and overseas - along with many members of the hospital team.

"The whole family participated and made the moment very special - loud, happy, and positive," Edmondo said, noting there were plenty of happy tears to go around.

We are so proud of Anica and every child and young person who comes through the centre. 🎉

Today is 65 Roses Day, supporting the cystic fibrosis (CF) community. 🌹

The name has a sweet origin: in 1965, a young boy overheard his mother fundraising for CF and mispronounced "cystic fibrosis" as "65 Roses."

It transformed a complex, intimidating medical term into a relatable phrase of love and endurance for children.

In Australia, around 1 in 2,500 babies is born with CF, typically detected through the newborn heel prick test.

Every person's experience is unique, with varying symptoms, complications and treatment needs.

Newer therapies now target the root cause of the condition rather than just the symptoms, helping South Australians with CF live longer.

If you or someone you love is affected by CF, support is available through Cystic Fibrosis SA on 0422 760 682 or [email protected]
