Dedicated to exploring new approaches to conservation through Indigenous-led knowledge, leadership and practice, the Forum brings together people from across cultures, sectors and regions to listen, learn, share ideas and build partnerships that support healthy Country and stronger conservation outcomes.

We look forward to being part of the conversation and supporting Indigenous-led approaches to conservation that deliver lasting environmental, cultural and community outcomes.

Every milestone has a story.

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the journey to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples was decades in the making. It was shaped by voices from communities around the world who came together to advocate for recognition, respect, and self-determination.

On 13 September 2007, those efforts helped secure a landmark declaration affirming the rights of Indigenous peoples globally.

Today, we acknowledge this important anniversary and recognise the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders who helped shape history. Their legacy continues to inspire stronger futures for Indigenous peoples everywhere.

Caring for Country is caring for people.

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Country is more than a place. It is culture, identity, history, and wellbeing. Indigenous knowledge systems developed over tens of thousands of years continue to guide the sustainable management of land and sea, benefiting both communities and the environment.

When First Nations people are supported to care for Country through ranger programs, conservation initiatives and cultural land management, the results are stronger ecosystems, stronger cultures and stronger communities.

Investing in Caring for Country is investing in Australia's future.

Since 1995, the ILSC has been delivering positive change through strategic partnerships with First Nations communities to unlock the social, cultural, economic, and environmental advantages that come with managing and owning Country.

We do this for one simple reason. We want the people that we serve to prosper and can play our part by returning land and water Country to its rightful owners.

We will continue to work in partnership with Australia’s first peoples and strive to play an important role in assisting First Nations peoples realise their aspirations for their Country.

More than 30 years after Mabo, the conversation about self-determination and economic participation continues.

In August, our GCEO Joe Morrison joined a panel at the Fulfilling the Promise of Mabo Symposium to discuss economic empowerment, future acts reform, and strengthening the role of Traditional Owners in development and regional economies.

Celebrating one year of the Quandamooka Arts and Culture Centre.

Since opening its doors, the centre has provided a dedicated space for artists to share culture, tell stories, and connect community with Country. We're proud to have played a part in bringing this vision to life.

This Indigenous Literacy Day, we celebrate the stories, knowledge, and languages that connect people to Country and to each other.

We recognise the wisdom of First Nations peoples and the important role literacy plays in sharing culture, identity, and community across generations.

The Falbala divestment ceremony has been highlighted by the National Indigenous Times.

The return of the 252-hectare property to Eastern Maar Traditional Owners marks an important milestone and demonstrates what can be achieved through strong partnerships, shared vision, and a commitment to returning Country to Traditional Owner management.

We congratulate Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation and everyone involved in this journey, and look forward to seeing the positive cultural, environmental and community outcomes that will grow from Falbala for years to come.

We’re supporting the upcoming Ngarringilanha Ranger Gathering!

Event Details
Dates: 21–25 September 2026

Location: Trelawney Station, Somerton, NSW (Gamilaraay Country) - a property divested by the ILSC seven years ago!

Scale: More than 200 rangers from 28 communities (including the NT, QLD and the ACT) will be in attendance.

Hosted by: Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council.

The gathering will feature four action-packed days where Indigenous rangers will come together for a program of workshops, demonstrations, networking, and cultural activities.
