Department for Energy and Mining, South Australia

Department for Energy and Mining, South Australia The Dept for Energy and Mining (DEM) embodies the critical link between our mining and energy sectors to achieve net zero emissions.

At DEM, we are responsible for driving game changing projects that are critical to South Australia’s economic future. DEM leads the global transformation economy, overseeing the responsible
mining and production of the minerals, metals and fuels of the future, to safely and sustainably generate the energy and low carbon products of the future. Our low cost power, leading regulation system and culture of innovation is
leading to the decarbonisation of industry, new modern manufacturing
opportunities, increased employment and greater prosperity and security for the people of South Australia. We particularly acknowledge the essential role that traditional Aboriginal
people play in the energy and mining sector as land managers, heritage
custodians, business owners and community leaders. The Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) acknowledges Aboriginal people as the First Nations Peoples of South Australia. We recognise and respect the cultural connections as the Traditional Owners and occupants of the land and waters of South Australia, and that they continue to make a unique and irreplaceable contribution to the State.

📈 South Australia's copper industry continues to break records.

New figures show copper exports reached $5.57 billion in the 12 months to July 2026, setting another record for the state.

The result builds on the momentum from last week's Copper to the World 2026 conference, which brought more than 600 delegates to Adelaide to discuss the future of one of the world's most important industrial metals and the opportunities emerging across South Australia.

With around two-thirds of Australia's known copper resources and a strong pipeline of projects, South Australia is helping supply the copper needed for renewable energy, electrification and the technologies that power our modern world.

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes before the Adelaide Royal Show opens?

OTR's Gas Installation and Appliance Safety team conducted inspections and testing of food vendor gas installations to help ensure a safe experience for everyone attending the show.

From food stalls to commercial cooking equipment, these important checks help keep South Australians safe while they enjoy one of the state's biggest events.

📍This year, Rundle Mall celebrated its 50th birthday!

This anniversary is a testament to its success as Adelaide’s most famous foot traffic hotspot.

But it’s not just the hundreds of retail stores, delicious food and vibrant street performances that make up its icon status. Its statues are photo opportunities, checkpoints and meeting places, decorating the strip with their unique flair.

Swipe to see which minerals each statue is made from. You might be surprised!

Copper-tunities were everywhere at Copper to the World 2026! 🟠

Over the past two days, DEM was proud to join industry leaders, investors, explorers, researchers and suppliers in Adelaide to discuss the future of one of the world's most important resources.

We had the chance to meet hundreds of delegates, share ideas, answer questions and showcase why South Australia continues to be at the centre of the copper conversation.

As Australia's copper capital, Adelaide was the perfect mining ground for these discussions, and we're excited to see where the connections and opportunities sparked this week may lead.

Thank you to Austmine for another outstanding event, and to everyone who stopped by for a chat.

Adelaide is the perfect place for conversations about the future of copper!

Home to two-thirds of Australia's copper resources, South Australia is helping drive the next generation of copper investment, exploration and development.

Join us at Copper to the World 2026 next week, where DEM is taking part in three presentations:

🟠 Wednesday 2 September – Richard Day joins a panel discussing the future of copper downstream processing.

🟠 Thursday 3 September – DEM Chief Executive Paul Martyn will address delegates on South Australia's copper opportunity and the role it can play in powering future industries.

🟠 Thursday 3 September – Suzanne Hunt joins a panel exploring what will define the next generation of copper exploration.

Come say hello - visit the DEM and GSSA team at Booth 13 throughout the conference!

⚠️ PRODUCT RECALL:

The ACCC has recalled certain Snowy River and Newgen caravans fitted with an RV-One HDJYF1001-1 two-stage LPG gas pressure regulator due to a potential fault that may cause LPG gas to leak.

A gas leak can lead to fire, explosion or asphyxiation risks, potentially causing serious injury or death.

If you own an affected caravan:
✅ Turn off the gas cylinders and gas supply valve on the regulator.
✅ Contact Regent RV to arrange a replacement as soon as possible.

🔋 Energised in Playford.

The latest emPoweringSA community battery has been switched on today in Elizabeth Park, expanding access to the program for eligible SA Housing Trust tenants and helping more households benefit from lower-cost electricity.

Part of South Australia's growing network of community batteries, the project is designed to ensure the benefits of renewable energy can be shared by people who are otherwise unable to access them, helping make the energy transition fairer and more affordable.

Eligible Housing Trust tenants located in the City of Playford council area can register their interest now to access the benefits of the program and potentially save on their electricity bills.

$7 billion. That's the record value of South Australia's energy and mining exports in 2025-26.

New ABS figures show copper continued to underpin that growth, with copper exports reaching a record $5.3 billion in the year to June 2026.

A significant milestone that reflects the continued strength of South Australia's resources sector and its contribution to jobs, investment and economic activity across the state.
