The United States Mission to International Organizations in Vienna (UNVIE) works with seven major organizations of the United Nations system based in Vienna: the International Atomic Energy Agency; the UN Office on Drugs and Crime; the Preparatory Commission of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization; the UN Office of Outer Space Affairs; the Wassenaar Arrangement; the UN Commission on Inte

rnational Trade Law; and the UN Industrial Development Organization, of which the U.S. UNVIE also covers the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Laxenburg, Austria.

Alien smuggling is a direct threat to American security. Last year, the United States secured the first UN resolution committing countries to target the corruption that allows alien smuggling to thrive. Last week at the Implementation Review Group in Vienna, the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation showed what real law enforcement looks like – action to dismantle smuggling networks, prosecute smugglers, and hold corrupt officials accountable.

The United States will use every available tool to protect America’s borders and communities. Our message to countries is simple: Enforce the law and confront corruption.
