I was pleased to participate in the symbolic 829-step walk held at the Vienna International Centre ahead of the International Day Against Nuclear Tests.

The 829 steps represent 29 August, the date on which the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site in Kazakhstan was closed in 1991 and serve as a powerful reminder of the devastating legacy of nuclear testing.

Lebanon remains committed to advancing nuclear disarmament, bringing an end to nuclear test explosions, and promoting a safer and more peaceful world for all.

Delighted and honoured to meet Ms. Monica Juma, Director-General of UNOV and Executive Director of UNODC. We discussed ways to further strengthen Lebanon's partnership with UNODC across its mandate and deepen our cooperation in areas of shared priority. I thanked Ms. Juma and her team for UNODC's invaluable work in Lebanon and beyond, and reaffirmed Lebanon's commitment to our continued partnership.

It was an honour to welcome Mr. Omar Al-Rawi, Member of the Vienna Provincial Parliament and the Vienna City Council, and Chairman of the Committee for Urban Development, Mobility and Vienna Municipal Utilities, to the Embassy.

Our discussions focused on Vienna’s urban development priorities and on ways to strengthen cooperation in support of a city that continues to stand as a model of innovation, sustainability, diversity and quality of life.

Together with Spain, Lebanon proudly co-chairs the UNOV/UNODC Group of Friends for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, advancing inclusive dialogue, women's leadership, and stronger international cooperation in combating transnational organized crime.

This morning, the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations Office and International Organizations in Vienna and the Permanent Mission of Spain, in their capacity as Co-Chairs of the UNOV/UNODC Group of Friends for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, co-hosted the Women's Networking Breakfast Dialogue on Migrant Smuggling at the Vienna International Centre.

Held on the margins of the 13th Meeting of the UNTOC Working Group on the Smuggling of Migrants, the dialogue brought together Member States, UN entities and practitioners to exchange experiences and explore gender-responsive approaches to addressing migrant smuggling, while promoting women's leadership and participation in policy-making and operational responses.

Lebanon remains committed to advancing gender equality and strengthening international cooperation to effectively address transnational organized crime.
