Today, September 5, we commemorate the International Day of Indigenous Women and Girls.

Indigenous women and girls are leaders, keepers of knowledge, and agents of change. Their contributions are essential for the transmission of wisdom, languages, and traditions, and for the care of their communities and territories.

Recognizing and strengthening their role is key to building a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient future for everyone.

🇨🇦 Canada reaffirms its commitment to the rights, strength, and contributions of Indigenous women and girls.

(Dis)Information Sciences: conversations to share findings and evidence about the sources we trust when learning and informing ourselves.

Together with ✅Chequeado, we organized at the embassy a space for dialogue with researchers and specialists on information consumption. Reports and recent data were presented on reliable sources, uses of AI, and the risks of disinformation, especially in contexts of uncertainty.

💡 We took away valuable reflections and new perspectives thanks to Cecilia Calero, Laura Alonso Alemany, María Belén Zanoni, and Guillermo Solovey, who contributed their fresh insights and experience.

🤝 These meetings help us think collectively and build together a more transparent future.

🤝 Last week we welcomed the Senate advisors representing the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Canada. We had an enriching conversation about how to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new forms of collaboration.

Our special recognition goes to Senator Natalia Gadano and Senator Sergio Uñac, President and Vice President of the group, for their leadership and commitment to advancing this relationship.

We are excited to move forward with a shared agenda that promotes deeper cooperation in the coming months.

Yesterday, Ambassador Wheeler had the pleasure of visiting La Plata and learning more about the province of Buenos Aires, strengthening the historic ties that unite Canada with the region and exploring new opportunities for cooperation.

During the visit, the ambassador held a cordial meeting with Governor Axel Kicillof. They discussed the federal identity that characterizes both Argentina and Canada, as well as Canadian investments in the province, such as the E M Fluids project together with Aguas Bonaerenses. This initiative implements Canadian technology to sustainably improve water quality at the Paso de Las Piedras Dam, which supplies the cities of Bahía Blanca and Punta Alta. They also highlighted McCain’s historic investment in Balcarce.

🎓 In addition, Ambassador Wheeler met with Marcelo Pecoraro, Academic Vice President of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP), an institution with a long tradition of ties with Canadian universities. During the meeting, they discussed possibilities for joint work in various academic fields.

We continue building institutional bridges to foster mutual development and strategic collaboration. 🤝

Did you know that is known as the capital of the Northern Lights in North America? 🌌

In Canada’s Northwest Territories, this natural spectacle can be seen up to 240 nights a year.

By late August, the Arctic summer gives way to longer nights and the return of the aurora borealis, a symbol of northern Canadian identity. 🇨🇦

We had the honor of holding at the embassy the working day “Protective measures in the civil sphere for cases of digital gender violence,” together with public defenders of victims of gender-based violence and the legal units that depend on this General Defender’s Office.

📚 The exchange allowed us to address the most recent updates on the subject, strengthening protection tools and support for victims in the digital sphere.

💪 With these actions, we continue advancing in the defense of rights and in building a safer and fairer environment for all individuals.
We especially thank Ana Correa and Raquel Asensio for coordinating this activity.

Canada’s lakes are more than beautiful landscapes—they are lifelines.

From the Great Lakes to small northern ponds, fresh water sustains ecosystems, contributes to biodiversity, and supports Indigenous and local communities.

On World Lake Day, we celebrate these waters and acknowledge that they are not limitless. They require our care, stewardship and commitment to safeguard them for future generations.

💧🌿 Did you know? Canada is home to around 2 million lakes—nearly 14% of all the lakes on Earth. This makes it the country with the largest number of lakes in the world, a reminder of the immense responsibility we share in protecting them.
