Our future projects for which we are looking for European partners via Creative Europe – Culture subprogramme

1. Opera Nights Opera and Classical Music Festival (also see operanights.ro website)

Partners

Opera Nights Festival, ever since the first edition, featured artists from many countries, EU or non-EU. We want to develop Opera Nights Festival by giving this event a European dimension and visibility by engaging partners from other EU countries.
We are interested in partnerships with cultural associations or similar NGO structures experienced in managing outdoor performances, with which to organize such events, to popularize the Opera Nights Festival in those countries and to ensure the participation of ensembles / artistic bands genre of those countries in the Festival Opera Nights.

Thematic: Performing Arts
Subsection: Music
Project Title: Festival of Opera and Classical music "Opera Nights"
Venues: Deva (Magna Curia Palace) and Hunedoara (Corvinilor Castle)
Period: Opera Nights Festival will run from 14th to 19th of July, 2015, but preparing festival takes between six and eight months. Titles of the performances and date of the next edition are generally known in the first week after each edition.
Estimated budget: 140.000 Eur (with a EU contribution of 84.000 Eur)

The purpose of the Festival is to produce opera, operetta and ballet performances during five consecutive nights and a night in which the Opera Ball will take place. The performances will be presented by ensembles of opera, operetta and ballet invited not only from Romania, but also from other European Union countries.
During the day we plan to organize cultural moments of smaller, related genres - chamber music, jazz, blues, musical entertainment moments that will take place in the two areas and their immediate neighbourhood, also presented by ensembles from Romania and other European countries.
Because in the two locations there are many spaces with unconventional appearance, these will be used for exhibitions of plastic arts, photography, contemporary art and experimental arts.
Being an event that has already had four successful editions, we would like to finance it mainly with European funds and with international partnerships, giving the festival an international dimension.
The "Opera Nights" festival has already become a landmark among the summer cultural events in central Hunedoara county, well-known in Romania. The 2014 program was established immediately after the 2013 edition, following the major festivals this model work in Europe, especially the one in Avenches - Switzerland.

Purpose:

The project has two main goals / aims to achieve:
- Presentation of a genre - opera - which is entirely absent from the region's cultural offer, because Hunedoara County does not have an opera, operetta, ballet theater or philharmonic orchestra
- Highlighting the two sights: Corvin Castle in Hunedoara, built in Gothic style and Renaissance Deva Magna Curia Palace, buit in Renaissance and Baroque style; by a smart and attractive touristic offer, other sights in Hunedoara County can also be promoted, as well as neighbouring counties, such Alba and Sibiu
The growing number of viewers imposed diversification in the repertoire and an increase in the quality of the performances. Cultural actions like the festival "Opera Nights" also aim to educate the public into this kind of leisure activities.

2. Simeria Green Music Project

Simeria Green Music is a cultural project by which we intend to enlight in a particular manner Simeria Arboretum (aka the Arboretum Simeria), considered as one of the most valuable botanical parks built in English landscaping style in Europe. Details on http://www.icashd.ro/arboretum.html
However, we want to improve the cultural offer of the area with a medium sized festival focused on a music genre that is almost completely absent in the county’s cultural landscape – jazz.

The festival would be held annually in early June (starting with 2015), for 3 days, outdoors in park Simeria.
We expect the preparations to last for about 5 months, starting with January 2015.
Genres such as jazz and blues will be involved in the two daily concerts plus side events during the festival days. We also intend to organize conferences on cultural or environment protection, as Hunedoara County holds first national park in Romania (Retezat National Park, which dates from 1935), Dinosaurs Geopark, etc.

The stage design would be outstanding, demonstrating how technology and design can be „friends” with a protected area. The way in which the stage and the seats would be conceived altogether should form an attraction in itself and would be able to host other similar events.

As partners, there could be the Simeria City Hall and NGO’s partners from EU countries, maybe from regions with parks and large botanical gardens, but also with experience in the management of cultural events.

Estimated budget - 40,000 Eur. (with a EU contribution of 24.000 Eur)

Contact: Alexandru Gruian, e-mail: [email protected], tel. +40 722 214 788

3. Hunedoara ChurchArt Fest

Hunedoara County has the largest number medieval stone church in Romania. The best known is Densuş but there are also Strei, Streisângeorgiu, Peşteana, Colţ, Sânpetru, Ostrov, Lesnic, Gurasada, Crişcior and Râbiţa
Ways of promoting them are completely inexistant. They are all Gothic churches, thus a festival of classical music (generally speaking classical, but Baroque and Gregorian probably would fit best), outdoor concerts held at each one of these churches (each has a special ambiance ) would bring an increase in the number of visitors who would connect this music to the architecture of the area.

It can establish partnerships with municipalities and NGO’s with cultural interests and experience, especially with towns from EU countries where the Gothic style is not the exception, as it is in Romania, but the rule.

The festival would be held every August (starting 2015), for four week-ends, two days every weekend - Saturday and Sunday. We estimate that all preparations will be made in 6 months.
At first, we consider four areas with the best preserved churches - Densuş, Sântamaria Orlea, Strei and Colţ. In each of the two nights of the show/week there would be concerts of classical music ensembles - quartets, chamber orchestras, experimental ensembles. There will also be exhibitions and photography contests, conferences on conservation of monuments of medieval art, etc.

Estimated budget is 60,000 Eur (with a EU contribution of 36.000 Eur).

Galerija Miklova hiša - CALL FOR PARTNERS
Programme: Creative Europe
Sub-programme: culture
Estimated duration: 24 months
About the gallery
Galerija Miklova hiša in Ribnica, Slovenia is a public gallery that was formally founded in 1988 on the basis of annual art camps and the former Petkova galerija, but the tradition of exhibitions and related activities actually dates back to 1972. Today, it operates under the auspices of Rokodelski center in Ribnica that contains three professionally independent sections: art gallery, museum and arts & crafts.
In this more than thirty-year-long period, the gallery hosted a great number of solo and group exhibitions of young as well as already established artists who have played an important role in the Slovenian and international art scene. At the moment, Galerija Miklova hiša is the sole gallery with a perpetual exhibition programme in the local and partly regional area of southern Slovenia and is for this reason an important centre of fine art also on the national level.
During past activity, the gallery has acquired a collection of various art works, mostly paintings, drawings, prints, photographs and sculptures from the modern and post-modern art periods. Its qualitative core consists of artworks of Slovenian artists from the periods of late 1980s and early 1990s.
Beside modernism and contemporary art as the central interest points of the gallery’s occupation, our effort is also dedicated to preservation of local and regional art heritage by building an inventory database of private art collections of the area and widening the circle of its audience by exhibiting the most crucial pieces.
In 2008, the gallery established its own Art Education Centre and launched an informal educational four-year programme for those who wish to become familiar with the basics of art theory and practice under the guidance of academically trained artists. It has been designed for adults in general, with no limitations concerning education, profession or former knowledge. In the previous school year also a special programme for elementary school-aged children was carried out. The main purpose of all programmes is to reach out to new audiences and also educate them in order to strengthen their sensibility for modern and contemporary art, deepen their relationship with art in general and increase their cultural awareness. In addition to this, a didactic collection began to form in cooperation with the Association of Slovenian Artists. It tries to present all the crucial techniques, styles, practices and artists of Slovenian modern and contemporary artistic creativity.
About the project idea
Our basic project idea is to connect with other galleries or/and art education institutions around Europe in order to share experiences, express and compare different points of view, create some new methods of audience development and give the artists, mentors and curators the opportunity to gain some new experiences on the international stage.
Possible fields of collaboration:
- exhibiting,
- education.
Our main objectives (in accordance with the objectives and priorities of the Creative Europe programme) are:
- To enable artists, mentors and curators an international collaboration.
- To enable the artworks from the collection of the gallery an international impact.
- To increase the quality of the content and activities regarding exhibition and educational work on the grounds of fresh, different perspectives.
- To reach out to new audiences with a special attention to children, young people, people with disabilities and underrepresented groups.
- To intensify communication with the audience by the help of digital technology (online collections, online lectures, conferences and interviews etc.).
Our activities will include:
- International exchange of artists, curators or/and mentors.
- Organisation of international meetings and workshops.
- International exchange of artworks.
- Promotion of exhibiting and educational work with the use of digital technologies and new media.
- Collaboration with the local community and institutions related to children, young people, people with disabilities and underrepresented groups.

Name Foundation Avant Art
Short description Avant Art Foundation satisfies the most important need of the ambitious spectator – allows to discover new, fresh quality of art, and via the connected performative-musical presentations, opens the aforementioned spectator towards such art. An additional determinant of the festival are its yearly international cooperations, relying on the exchange of artistic experiences, effects of which are totally new projects. Each and every edition of the festival is devoted to presenting the arts of a certain country – in 2013 it was be a ten-day long presentation of art from Russia. The festival also hosted numerous artists from Switzerland, Italy, Finland and France. Furthermore, a very important intention of the Avant Art Foundation is more and more frequently the role of initiating educational and social activities, such as cultural education and the acquisition of local societies, which will be possible not only as a part of the Avant Art Festival, but above all in co-operation with the artists, curators and other institutions or organizations related to Culture. Thanks to its activities, the Avant Art Foundation is intended to become “a living artistic organism”. The programme of the foundation’s activities is supposed to be a result of constant partnership contacts between artists, managers and curators from all around Europe, as well as a result of a year-long work on the projects carried out as a part of the foundations actions. It is aimed at becoming a “place” combining, within the limits of co-productions, activities of not only local or nation reach, but first of all of international reach. The planned productions, budgeting system and promotion strategy will allow the functioning of the foundation as a modern culture institution, retaining full autonomy and independence. Project

Field(s) Visual arts, performing arts, music, technology (new media, net.art), design, architecture and urban art.
Description The main goal of the project is to create the enviroment and opportunities for a series of artistic residencies in 11 cities in Europe between 2015 and 2017. The events will be primarily regional, but will be extended to transnational dimension due to the presence of guests invited from other regions of Europe - the project will enable a possibility of exloring new places, new communities and different cultures in Europen creative sector, which is a core thing in case of cultural exchanges and artistic residencies. Networks and residencies currently existing in Europe are strongly focused on the one specific area, which is the area of arts. Our project breaks this trend, focusing on empowerment and enabling an interdisciplinary cooperation, decreasing the distance between the various areas of art – from performing and visual arts to innovative techologies and design. In order to achieve complex and innovative results we divided the project in two stages – Education Program and Artist-in-residence Program. The actions foreseen in the project will focus both on the development of professional skills of participants – mainly in areas of building the audience, creating the concept, funding and efficient management of artistic projects – and on real implementation of artist-in-residence projects. The meetings will make establishing of contacts between representatives of cultural and creative sectors across Europe possible and that will help the participants to establish a real cooperation in the future, which is crucial for the artist-in-residence projects, as well as any other type of cultural actions based on international exchange or cooperation. The project will be implemented between 2015 and 2017 in 11 locations in Europe (i. e. Zaragoza (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), Zagreb (Croatia), San Sebastian (Spain), Kosice (Slovakia) and Wroclaw (Poland) – 6 out of 11 are assumed to be former or future hosts of European Capitol of Culture (i. e. Kosice or Wroclaw).
