🇸🇪 It’s Election Day! 🗳️

Today national, regional and municipal elections are taking place in Sweden. And we take voting seriously – really seriously! 🤓

With voter turnout above 80 per cent for more than six decades, it’s fair to say Swedes have made a habit of showing up at the polls. 👋

Let’s look at what’s behind this strong commitment to voting. 👀

Music: ‘To Forget about You’ – Candelion/Epidemic Sound

Iso-polyphony, does it sound familiar?

If you have watched The Odyssey (2026), directed by Christopher Nolan, you probably recognise this soundtrack. 🎶

But did you know that the Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson, who created the soundtrack for The Odyssey, actually used the ancient Albanian tradition, iso-polyphony, to create these magical sounds? 👂🗣️

Iso-polyphony is a traditional form of Albanian folk music dating 2000-3000 years back to the Thraco-Illyrian era. It is a part of UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list since 2008. 🗓️

The song consists of two solo parts, a melody and a countermelody with a choral drone. It is sung a ca****la, i.e without any instruments. 🎼🥁

Therefore, we thank the Swedish composer and Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson for bringing attention to this beuatiful Albanian tradition! 🇦🇱

We are pleased to present another Special Screening, the national premiere of Live a Little by Swedish filmmaker F***y Ovesen, whose short film SHE-PACK has won over 15 awards and screened at more than 50 festivals worldwide.
This screening was made possible through our close, long-standing collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden and the Swedish Film Institute. We are proud to continue this partnership, bringing outstanding Scandinavian films to TIFF and promoting a humane, contemporary and European cinema.

Meet our new Interns Ella and Narmin at our Embassy here in Tirana! 🇦🇱🌞🇸🇪

Hi everyone! My name is Ella Kullander and I have recently graduated from my bachelor’s studies in Political Science at Uppsala University. I wrote my bachelor’s thesis on the implementation of election recommendations from OSCE/ODIHR’s observation of the Albanian parliamentary elections of 2021. I am interested in Albania’s EU accession, politics and international relations. I am very excited to be working here, and to learn about diplomacy, politics, and everything in between! I will contribute to the embassy at the section for political affairs, trade and communication, and I am also looking forward to exploring Albania! 🌎🌟

Përshëndetje! My name is Narmin Eftekhari and I will work with aid and development cooperation during my time here at the embassy. I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree in Human Rights at Uppsala University. I am passionate about social issues and to always strive for better opportunities and living conditions for people of all ages. I also have a strong interest in Albania’s history and culture. More piers. More swims. More reasons to love Stockholm and the city’s blue heart! 💙

Thanks to expanded wastewater treatment facilities, water quality is generally excellent. Since the general swimming ban in the harbor area was lifted in 2007, the city has opened up more and more opportunities for swimming right in the heart of Stockholm. Today, the city is investing heavily in new swimming piers and even waterfront saunas. 🏊‍♀️
