Prosecutors of general jurisdiction from Tirana, Elbasan, Durrës, Gjirokastër, Sarandë, Kukës, Korçë, Berat, Fier, Vlorë, Dibër, Lezhë, and Shkodër came together for the training “Prosecutorial Ethics and the Importance of Sharing Dilemmas.”

The training, led by the Dutch Prosecutor Disa Jironet, focused on challenging cases, particularly those involving domestic violence and gender-based violence situations where the right course of action is not always clear and where open, professional dialogue can make a meaningful difference.

Organized under the PEOPLE Project, implemented by the Center for Legal and Civic Initiatives Qnl Clci in partnership with the General Prosecution Office, the training brought together Albanian and Dutch prosecutorial expertise to foster ethical practice, reflection, and professional exchange.

Strengthening ethics, professional dialogue and trust within the justice system is essential to reinforcing the rule of law and Albania’s path towards the EU.

🇳🇱🤝🇦🇱This week, we welcomed a delegation of Dutch judges in training as part of a study visit to Albania and Italy, focusing on justice systems, judicial cooperation, and rule-of-law developments.

The delegation met with judges from the Albanian Association of Judges and the Supreme Court, and visited the Court and Prosecutor’s Office in Durrës. These meetings offered valuable opportunities to exchange experiences and perspectives on judicial practice and reform.

The program also brought together rule-of-law experts and academia for a broader discussion on judicial reform, European integration, and the role of independent expertise in strengthening the rule of law.

The Netherlands remains committed to supporting Albania’s European path through meaningful professional exchanges and cooperation.

Today, the Princ Claus Fund celebrates 30 years of championing artistic freedom worldwide. For three decades, the Fund has supported independent artists through trust-based funding, long-term commitment, and international cultural collaboration.

Congratulations on this milestone!

We are proud that the Prince Claus Fund recognizes and awards artists from Albania as well such as Fatos Lubonja, Ornela Aliaj and Diana Malaj.

Time to say goodbye to our intern, Charlotte Venes, who completed her six-month internship at our Embassy.

During her internship, Charlotte researched social media and digital literacy in Albania, using protests as a case study to explore their role in the digital space.

As Charlotte reflects: “The past six months at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Albania have been highly interesting, rewarding, and enjoyable. Thanks to all my colleagues for their support!
I will continue to follow the country’s achievements from afar and look forward to visiting again to explore more of its nature and sights.

We wish Charlotte the best of luck in her future engagements.

Today, Ambassador Marleen Monster officially presented her Letters of Credence to H.E. Mr.Bajram Begaj, President of the Republic of Albania, marking the beginning of her term as the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Albania.

The Netherlands and Albania are strong partners with close bilateral ties across key areas, including the rule of law, security, democratic institutions, civil society, culture, and economic diplomacy. Ambassador Monster reaffirmed the Netherlands’ support to Albania’s EU accession process.

We look forward to a productive and successful partnership throughout Ambassador Monster’s mandate.

Fun fact: Ambassador Monster is no stranger to Albania, having been posted in Tirana at the start of her diplomatic career. Almost twenty years later, she returns in a new role, with plenty of new things to discover in a country that was once her home.

After 40 years of dedicated service as a civil servant, Ambassador Vos is now preparing to close this chapter and return to the Netherlands for a well-earned retirement.

Over the past five years, Team Tirana has had the honor of sharing countless events, dinners, receptions, talks on EU accession, and duty trips with him across Albania. There have been many memorable moments, but some of our favorites were the simpler ones: the pizzas we shared as a team, filled with laughter and good stories.

We are thankful for all the memories, the good humor, the wisdom, and, of course, the many stories that made our time together so special.

Team Tirana wishes Ambassador Vos and his wife Corien, a healthy and happy retirement, full of new adventures, many hikes, and hopefully, the occasional pizza!

We will miss you, Ambassador Vos. Thank you for everything, and enjoy this next chapter! 🇳🇱❤️🇦🇱

The safety of journalists remains a priority for the Netherlands. We are pleased to extend our support to Scidev for several more months to help strengthen the protection of journalists and media professionals in Albania.

In cooperation with the Shoqata e Prokuroreve, the project will enhance the practical, consistent, and rights-based response of prosecutors and law enforcement to threats, intimidation, harassment, obstruction, and attacks against journalists, media professionals, and public watchdog actors.
