👉The Western Balkans belong in the European Union🇪🇺

In Montenegro 🇲🇪, further steps are being taken to bring the region closer together and closer to the EU.

✅️ From 2027, the European Commission intends to open the DiscoverEU travel programme to young people from across the Western Balkans.

Beyond this, more support and more opportunities will be provided to citizens, young people, civil society organisations, women, communities and grassroots initiatives across the region in general.

👍 The Western Balkans Fund is part of this story.

With our Grant for Grassroot Organisations, the Gender Equality Fund, ERC Grants and many other grant scheme, we are supporting a stronger, more connected Europe for the next generation.

🧩 Yesterday in Budva, we had the pleasure to participate in the reception marking the 10th anniversary of RYCO’s establishment.

🤝 RYCO (in 2016) and the Western Balkans Fund (2017) were both created as practical regional tools with a clear mission: to bring people closer, especially young people, through cooperation, dialogue, mobility, common projects and shared ideas.

📢 That's why, celebrating this milestone means celebrating not only an anniversary.

🙏 It means celebrating the power of a simple but transformative idea: that the future of the Western Balkans depends on the bridges we build between our people.

🎯 Once more, the Western Balkans Fund congratulates RYCO on its 10th birthday and looks forward to continuing our joint mission of strengthening regional cooperation, reconciliation and people-to-people connectivity across the Western Balkans.

📢 May 2026 was one of the busiest months in the history of the Western Balkans Fund, marked by the inauguration of the second phase of cooperation with the Swiss Government, the launch of the pilot Gender Equality Fund for the Western Balkans, the continuation of the third WBF–Visegrad Fellowship Call, and the evaluation of the GGI Grants.

There are many ways of promoting regional cooperation. One of them is to appeal to the heart and to the emotions. With his photo exhibition, Alexander Crnogorac, a WBF grantee has done just exactly that.

“Balkan Love” Gallery aims to promote the cultural and ethnic diversity of the Western Balkans Region. It goes deep, penetrates the layers of misconceptions and stereotypes, providing to the public countless stories of inter-ethnic and often inter-religious couples who have overcome the inherent prejudices by thriving together in their lives.

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐗𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢, 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 💪🤝

Xheni Lame is a Program Coordinator who brings with her over a decade of experience in parliamentary engagement, democratic governance, and policy advancement. We are happy to announce that from 18 of May, she brings these skills to our team.

With an MSC in Public Administration, Xheni has worked in the civil society sector for almost a decade, and has been a part of the Albanian Parliament for over 3 years. This combination of academic knowledge and hands-on experience allows Xheni to evaluate projects on both the merits of their technical information and the potential benefits that may not be fully tangible at the proposal stage.

With the Fund growing in both scope and impact, Xheni's expertise and eagerness couldn't come at a better time, so we wish her success with her new role, and we are looking forward to achieving even greater things with her on board.
