Labor Standards Development Authority and Sharjah Municipality Strengthen Collaboration to Advance the Sharjah Standard for Workers’ Accommodation
His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Labor Standards Development Authority (LSDA), received a high-level delegation from Sharjah City Municipality, led by His Excellency Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director General of Sharjah City Municipality, on February 5, 2025. The meeting was convened to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in developing the Sharjah Standard for Workers’ Accommodation, which is in line with the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah to ensure a dignified life for workers and drive sustainable development.
A Qualitative Leap in Workers’ Accommodation Management in Sharjah
His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi emphasized the significance of the strategic partnership with Sharjah City Municipality, commending its pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life and delivering outstanding services that meet the aspirations of all segments of society. He also underscored that the “Sharjah Standard for Workers’ Accommodation” project represents a qualitative leap in organizing and managing the workers’ accommodation sector with a comprehensive and integrated approach. He noted that it is the first of its kind in the Middle East, aiming to elevate decent accommodation standards and provide an integrated environment that ensures the comfort and stability of workers across various job categories, thereby enhancing the Emirate of Sharjah’s position as an ideal destination for living and working according to pioneering standards.
During the meeting, the specialized team gave a detailed presentation on the project's updates, reviewing its components and the latest updates alongside the expected stages of implementation. Highlights were also shed on the most prominent challenges facing the workers’ accommodation sector in the Emirate and the organizational solutions adopted within the project to address them to achieve greater efficiency in organizing this vital sector.
Continuous Coordination to Monitor the Implementation of the Standard
In conclusion, both sides affirmed the importance of continuing coordination to implement the “Sharjah Standard for Workers’ Accommodation” project according to the highest standards. They agreed to periodically follow up on its developments, contributing to developing an integrated and sustainable residential environment.
