H.E. Oleg Firer delivered opening remarks at the event organized by the Russian-Caribbean Friendship Association to celebrate 49th Anniversary of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)
💬 “I want to give a special welcome to the representatives of the diplomatic missions of CARICOM observer states that are present here tonight (Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Venezuela) as well as all those who are part of the CARICOM Diaspora.
Today, CARICOM is the oldest surviving integration movement in the developing world. Its achievements along the way are many. Great strides have been made, particularly through functional cooperation in education, in health, in culture and in security. The organization is a respected voice in international affairs because of coordinated foreign policy,” continued ambassador Firer.
🔹Event was attended by the heads of the missions of the group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) accredited to the Russian Federation, representatives of the government of Russia, Moscow, various ministries, parliament, ngo’s and universities as well representatives of other diplomatic missions, including: United Kingdom, Turkey, Malta, Benin, Mauritus, Montenegro, and others.
📌 CARICOM Day marks the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas in 1973. The treaty established the Caribbean Community and Common Market, which would go on to become Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
