The World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) emerged in response to the priorities and concerns identified from Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012 as an organization intended to support emerging global actions towards the green, low-carbon, climate-resilient development model. omy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication, by linking financing, technology, capacity-building and all other elements of the enabling environment for green economy.

WGEO and AmCham Dubai signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2026, reinforcing public-private collaboration in support of Green Economy priorities.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Saeed Al Tayer, Chairman of the World Green Economy Organization, and Sammy Bousaba, Chairman of AmCham Dubai.

The signing ceremony, held during WGS 2026, was attended by Robert Raines, US Consul General for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, along with board members of both organizations.

The partnership establishes a structured framework to connect American private-sector expertise with WGEO’s platforms, enabling policy dialogue, market-relevant initiatives, and cross-border collaboration across WGEO’s international network.

2016 was not just a year, it was a starting point.
As part of the 2016 throwback trend, we’re looking back to where the journey began.
On 5 October 2016, the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) was launched by the United Arab Emirates Government represented by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, during the World Green Economy Summit in Dubai with a clear vision: to create a global platform that advances dialogue, cooperation, and practical action towards a green, low-carbon, and climate-resilient future.
Just weeks later, the UAE became the first country to join WGEO, followed by the global announcement at COP22 in Marrakech, positioning WGEO as a bridge between governments, international organizations, the private sector, and society at large.
In November 2016, the vision received global recognition, as the United Nations Secretary-General commended the UAE’s leadership and the establishment of WGEO as a mechanism to accelerate progress toward global climate and development goals.
Looking back matters because it reminds us why we started, what we set out to build, and the responsibility that comes with carrying a global mandate forward.
From 2016 to today, the purpose remains the same: turning vision into action, and dialogue into impact.

The World Green Economy Organization participated in the 16th Session of the IRENA Assembly, with the delegation led by H.E. Abdulrahim Sultan, Director General of the Organization.

The delegation took part in the Assembly proceedings and the official opening ceremony, contributing to high-level discussions on accelerating the global transition toward inclusive and resilient green economies.

On the sidelines of the Assembly, WGEO conducted a series of bilateral meetings with government representatives, international organizations, and key stakeholders, focusing on strengthening international cooperation, advancing policy dialogue, and identifying opportunities for collaboration in support of the global green economy agenda.

The World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) is pleased to announce its participation in the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment.

Our engagement will be preceded by the Seventh Meeting of the Open-Ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR-7), taking place from 1 to 5 December 2025, where member states will negotiate resolutions and shape the agenda leading to UNEA-7.

WGEO’s participation underscores our commitment to supporting global dialogue on environmental governance, accelerating the transition to a green economy and strengthening international cooperation to advance sustainable development.

We look forward to contributing to the discussions, sharing our work with member countries and collaborating with partners to drive impactful climate action and green economic transformation.

This past week, the Seventh Meeting of the Open-Ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR‑7) successfully concluded, paving the way for UNEA‑7. As the preparatory platform for UNEA, OECPR‑7 negotiated and forwarded a robust package of draft resolutions and decisions on key environmental priorities, including:

* Circular economy, chemicals and waste management and sustainable minerals and metals
* Climate resilience and nature-based solutions
* Environmental governance, AI and sustainability and youth engagement
* Institutional strengthening of UNEP and strategic planning for 2026–2029

These outcomes are critical in shaping global frameworks for sustainability, green economy and climate action, which directly align with WGEO’s mission of supporting member states in accelerating the transition to a green economy.

As UNEA‑7 approaches, WGEO looks forward to engaging with partners and member states to translate these international commitments into concrete local and regional action, including advancing carbon-neutral cities, fostering sustainable investment and enabling innovative green solutions.

Day 9 at COP30 highlighted the interconnected challenges shaping climate-resilient societies from food systems and water security to gender equality and inclusive economic opportunity.
