Gateway to South Asia: Discover the Opportunities of Port City Colombo, Where Global Ambition Meets South Asian Opportunity

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Dubai, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Colombo Port City Economic Commission (CPCEC) and CHEC Port City Colombo Pvt. Ltd., hosted a high-level investment promotion event in Dubai to showcase the opportunities available at Port City Colombo, Sri Lanka’s premier Special Economic Zone and emerging international business destination. The event titled “Globalization and the Sri Lankan Opportunity; Recovery to Relevance: Sri Lanka’s Moment in the Evolving Global and Regional Economy,” took place on 11 June 2026, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Dubai. This event brought together investors, business leaders, financial institutions, chambers of commerce, property developers, real estate companies and members of the Sri Lankan and international business community in the United Arab Emirates to explore investment, trade, and partnership opportunities within Port City Colombo, a gateway to South Asia.
This exclusive Port City Promotion event was graced by the participation of H. E. Hanif Yusoof, President’s Special Envoy on Foreign Direct Investments for Sri Lanka, Harsha Amarasekera, P.C., Chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission; and senior officials of the Port City Commission and the CHEC Port City Colombo Pvt. Ltd.

Alexi Gunasekera, Consul General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and Northern Emirates attended the 07th Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Professionals’ Association on 07 June 2026.
Addressing the meeting the Consul General emphasized that Sri Lankan professionals in the UAE are more than successful expatriates, they are strategic partners in Sri Lanka’s development. He called on the Sri Lankan Professional Association to leverage its expertise, networks, and influence to attract investment, promote trade, create jobs, support tourism, facilitate joint ventures, share knowledge, provide economic and policy insights, and mentor future generations. He urged members to work closely with the Consulate General and contribute actively to strengthening Sri Lanka’s economy, global reputation, and long-term prosperity.

Hari Prasad Odari, Consul General of Nepal in Dubai met with Alexi Gunasekera, Consul General of Sri Lanka to Dubai and Northern Emirates on 03 June 2026 following the opening of the Consulate General office of Nepal in Dubai.

The discussions focused on sharing best practices and experiences gained in Dubai and the Northern Emirates in areas such as investment promotion, trade facilitation, logistics, tourism development, innovation, smart services, and public-private partnerships. Both Consuls General noted that these successful models could provide valuable insights for advancing economic growth and development initiatives in Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Delivering an insightful message, the Consul General emphasized the importance of putting Buddhist teachings into practice in daily life, urging the community to embody the values of compassion, kindness, mindfulness, and ethical conduct in their interactions with others.
