The International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC) is an oganisation dedicated to securing a sustainable future for the Houbara bustard, an emblematic yet vulnerable species in Arab culture. Established in Abu Dhabi in 2006, the Fund manages a network of dedicated breeding centres and operations across the Houbara’s migratory range. With a mission to conserve and rebalance wild Houbara populat
ions through active intervention and conservation leadership, IFHC manages breeding and release programmes at the National Avian Research Centre (NARC) in Sweihan, the Sheikh Khalifa Houbara Breeding Centre at Seih Al Salem in Abu Dhabi (SKHBC-AD), the Emirates Centre for Wildlife Propagation (ECWP) in Missour, Morocco and the Sheikh Khalifa Houbara Breeding Centre in Kazakhstan (SKHBC-Kz). Our pre-emptive conservation model involves positive action to ensure a sustainable future for the species. By addressing issues before they arise, we mitigate the need to interfere in the wild. Our goal to achieve viable populations across the species range is supported by six strategic pillars: Sustained breeding and release; safeguarding wild reserves and ecosystems; international affairs, fostering global collaboration; legislation, regulation and enforcement; culture and heritage; education.

يعد الصندوق الدولي للحفاظ على الحبارى إحدى المؤسسات التابعة لحكومة أبوظبي، ويتولى العمل على ضمان استدامة مستقبل طيور الحبارى المعرضة للخطر والتي تُمثل إحدى الرموز الأصيلة للثقافة العربية.
ويعمل الصندوق، الذي تأسس عام 2006، على إدارة شبكة من مراكز البحث والإكثار المتخصصة والمنتشرة في مختلف الدول التي يغطيها نطاق انتشار وهجرة طيور الحبارى. ويسعى الصندوق للحفاظ على طيور الحبارى وزيادة أعدادها في موائلها البرية من خلال التدخل الفعال والريادة في الحفاظ على الأنواع، كما يتولى إدارة العديد من برامج الإكثار وإطلاق الحبارى في المركز الوطني لبحوث الطيور في سويحان، ومركز الشيخ خليفة لإكثار الحبارى في سيح السلم بأبوظبي، ومركز الإمارات لتنمية الحياة الفطرية في ميسور وإنجيل بالمغرب، ومركز الشيخ خليفة لإكثار الحبارى في كازاخستان.
ويشتمل نموذجنا الاستباقي للحفاظ على الأنواع على تدابير فعالة تضمن المستقبل المستدام لهذه الطيور؛ إذ ننجح من خلاله في معالجة المشاكل بشكلٍ استباقي للحد من الحاجة إلى التدخل في الحياة البرية.
ويستند هدفنا المتمثل في الوصول إلى أعداد مستدامة لمختلف سلالات هذه الطيور على ستة ركائز أساسية، وهي: الإكثار والإطلاق بشكل مستدام؛ وصون المحميات والمنظومات البيئية الطبيعية؛ وتعزيز جهود التعاون الدولي؛ والتشريع والتنظيم وتنفيذ القانون؛ والثقافة والتراث؛ والتعليم.
