The National Library and Archives: One of most comprehensive archives worldwide, aims to strengthen the sense of unity and national identity and is entrusted with collecting, documenting and translating valuable historical material relating to the United Arab Emirates in particular and the Arabian Gulf states in general. In just fifty-four years; the National Library and Archives has achieved a pioneer status, owing to its use of cutting-edge technology to carry out its mandate. It is one of the UAE's oldest documentation and archiving institutions and the largest documentation center in the Gulf region.

رسّخت مسيرة بناء دولة الإمارات رؤية الوالد المؤسس، المغفور له الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان، طيّب الله ثراه، حول أهمية التخطيط والهندسة العمرانية في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة، وأبرزت الدور الهام للمهندس في رسم ملامح النهضة وتحويل الرؤى الطموحة إلى منجزاتٍ تواكب تطلعات المستقبل.

وفي يوم المهندس العالمي، نشارككم صورة توثّق لحظة اطّلاع الشيخ زايد على مخطط مع الشيخ طحنون بن محمد آل نهيان، رحمه الله، في مدينة العين خلال السبعينيات، مما يعكس اهتمامه بمتابعة خطط التطوير والبناء في الدولة.

The UAE’s journey of development reflects the vision of The UAE’s Founding Father, The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his belief in the importance of planning and urban development in achieving sustainable growth. It also highlights the vital role of engineers in shaping the nation’s progress and transforming ambitious visions into achievements that meet the aspirations of the future.

On World Engineering Day, we share a photograph capturing Sheikh Zayed reviewing a development plan with The Late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan in Al Ain during the 1970s, reflecting his commitment to following the country’s development and construction plans.

نظّم الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية، بالتعاون مع جمعية الإمارات للمكتبات والمعلومات، ملتقى المعرفة الأول تحت شعار “الأرشيفات والمكتبات: شراكة المعرفة وصناعة الذاكرة”، بهدف تعزيز التعاون والتكامل بين مؤسسات الأرشيف والمكتبات، ودعم دورها في ترسيخ المعرفة وحفظ الذاكرة الوطنية.

وشهد الملتقى مشاركة الدكتور حمد عبدالله المطيري، المدير التنفيذي بالإنابة للأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية ونائب رئيس المجلس الدولي للأرشيف، وسعادة فهد المعمري، رئيس مجلس إدارة جمعية الإمارات للمكتبات والمعلومات، والأستاذ الدكتور عماد عيسى، رئيس الاتحاد العربي للمكتبات والمعلومات، حيث ناقشوا مستقبل الأرشيفات والمكتبات ودور الشراكات المؤسسية في تطوير العمل في مجال الأرشفة ومواكبة التحولات الرقمية.

كما أكّد المشاركون أهمية تعزيز تبادل الخبرات وتبني الحلول الرقمية المبتكرة، بما يسهم في بناء مجتمع معرفي مستدام وحفظ إرثنا الغني للأجيال القادمة.

The National Library and Archives, in collaboration with the Emirates Libraries and Information Association, organised the First Knowledge Forum under the theme “Archives and Libraries: Partnership of Knowledge and Memory Making”. The forum aimed to strengthen cooperation and integration between archives and libraries, while supporting their role in advancing knowledge and preserving national memory.

The forum featured the participation of Dr Hamad Al Mutairi, Acting Executive Director of the NLA and Vice President of the International Council on Archives; His Excellency Fahad Al Maamari, Chairman of the Board of the Emirates Libraries and Information Association; and Professor Dr Emad Issa, President of the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information.

They discussed the future of archives and libraries and the role of institutional partnerships in advancing archival work and keeping pace with digital transformation.

The participants also emphasised the importance of strengthening the exchange of expertise and adopting innovative digital solutions to help build a sustainable knowledge society and preserve our rich heritage for future generations.

نشارككم صوراً تاريخية للوالد المؤسس، المغفور له الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان، طيّب الله ثراه، أثناء جولته البحرية في السبعينيات، ضمن مقتنيات الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية في معرض أبوظبي الدولي للكتاب 2026، والتي تعكس جانباً من الهوية البحرية التي شكّلت جزءاً أصيلاً من تاريخ دولة الإمارات وتراثها الأصيل.

يواصل الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية توثيق مسيرة دولة الإمارات الثقافية وإبراز اهتمامها بمعارض الكتاب، التي شكّلت منذ البدايات ركيزة أساسية في مشروعها الثقافي والوطني.

ونشارككم محطة تاريخية تبرز جولة الوالد المؤسس، المغفور له الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان. طيّب الله ثراه، في معرض الكتاب الإسلامي الأوّل الذي أُقيم في مبنى المجمّع الثقافي بأبوظبي، بتاريخ 3 مايو 1981م، في مشهد يجسّد دعم القيادة للمعرفة بوصفها جسراً للتواصل وتقدّم المجتمعات.

The National Library and Archives continues to document the UAE’s cultural journey and highlight the importance placed on book fairs, which have been a cornerstone of the nation’s cultural and knowledge landscape since the early years.

We share a historical moment documenting a visit by The UAE’s Founding Father, The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to the First Islamic Book Exhibition, held at the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi on 3 May 1981. The photograph reflects the leadership’s support for knowledge as a bridge for connection and the advancement of societies.

نظّم الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية، بالتعاون مع جمعية الإمارات للمكتبات والمعلومات، ملتقى المعرفة الأول تحت شعار "الأرشيفات والمكتبات: شراكة المعرفة وصناعة الذاكرة"، بهدف تعزيز التكامل بين مؤسسات الأرشيف والمكتبات، دعم حفظ الذاكرة الوطنية، إتاحة المعرفة وخدمة المجتمع.

وشهد الملتقى جلسات حوارية وخلوة ثقافية ناقشت مستقبل مؤسسات المعرفة والذكاء الاصطناعي، واختُتم بإطلاق "مختبر رؤية" وتشكيل لجنتين تُعنيان بالأرشيفات والذكاء الاصطناعي والتحوّل الرقمي، بما يعزز الشراكات ويدعم الابتكار في قطاع المعرفة.

The National Library and Archives, in collaboration with the Emirates Libraries and Information Association, organised the First Knowledge Forum under the theme “Archives and Libraries: Partnership of Knowledge and Memory Making”. The forum aimed to strengthen integration between archival and library institutions, support the preservation of national memory, facilitate access to knowledge and serve the community.

The forum featured panel discussions and a cultural retreat exploring the future of knowledge institutions and artificial intelligence. It concluded with the launch of the “Vision Lab” and the formation of two committees focused on archives, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, further strengthening partnerships and supporting innovation across the knowledge sector.

نشارككم مقتطفات من فعاليات ملتقى المعرفة الأول تحت عنوان "الأرشيفات والمكتبات: شراكة المعرفة وصناعة الذاكرة"، والذي أُقيم في مقر الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية بمشاركة نخبة من المتخصصين والخبراء في مجال الأرشيف والمكتبات والمعلومات.

شهد الملتقى جلسة حوارية تناولت دور مؤسسات الذاكرة والمعرفة والتقنيات الحديثة في إدارة المعلومات والأرشفة وتعزيز الوصول إليها، بالإضافة إلى ورشة حول أهمية الشراكات المعرفية في إثراء مصادر التعلّم، وخلوة ثقافية أتاحت آفاق التعاون وتبادل المعرفة في قطاع المكتبات والمعلومات.

We share highlights from the First Knowledge Forum, held under the theme “Archives and Libraries: Partnership of Knowledge and Memory Making” at the National Library and Archives headquarters, bringing together a distinguished group of specialists and experts in archives, libraries and information.

The forum featured a panel discussion exploring the role of memory and knowledge institutions and modern technologies in information management and archiving, as well as enhancing access to information. It also included a workshop on the importance of knowledge partnerships in enriching learning resources, and a cultural retreat that provided opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange across the libraries and information sector.

نظّم الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية ورشة فنية ضمن مشاركته في معرض أبوظبي الدولي للصيد والفروسية، في إطار المشروع المجتمعي التفاعلي (X71) الذي يأتي هذا العام تحت عنوان "النزهات العائلية"، ويسلّط الضوء على أهمية الأسرة في ترسيخ الوعي المجتمعي، صون القيم الوطنية، وتمكين الترابط بين الأجيال.

أُقيمت الورشة بالتعاون مع طلبة برنامج "وطني إبداعي" التابع لدائرة التعليم والمعرفة، بهدف دعم الإبداع الطلابي وتعزيز المشاركة المجتمعية.

نواصل في الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية تمكين الأجيال الشابة لتعزيز ارتباطها بالهوية الوطنية نحو بناء مجتمع متماسك ومتطوّر.

The National Library and Archives organised an art workshop during its participation in the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition, as part of the Interactive Community Project X71, which is being held this year under the theme “Family Outings”. The project highlights the importance of family in fostering community awareness, preserving national values and strengthening connections between generations.

The workshop was held in collaboration with students from the “Watani Ibdaai” programme, organised by the Department of Education and Knowledge, with the aim of supporting student creativity and enhancing community participation.

At the NLA, we continue to empower younger generations, strengthening their connection to national identity and contributing to building a cohesive and progressive society.

إليكم لمحة من مشاركة الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية في معرض أبوظبي الدولي للصيد والفروسية 2026، من خلال جناحه الذي يوثّق اهتمام دولة الإمارات بالرياضات التراثية عبر العديد من الصور والوثائق التاريخية والأفلام الوثائقية، التي توثق رحلات الصيد بالصقور وسباقات الخيل والهجن.

كما يستعرض الجناح نماذج من الأسلحة التراثية بالتعاون مع القيادة العامة لشرطة أبوظبي ممثلةً بالموروث الشرطي، بالإضافة إلى إصدارات تبرز محطات من تاريخ الدولة وموروثها الأصيل.

Here’s a glimpse of the National Library and Archives’ participation in the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2026, through its pavilion showcasing the UAE’s enduring connection to traditional sports through historical photographs, documents and documentaries documenting falconry expeditions and horse and camel racing.

The pavilion also features traditional weapons in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, represented by Police Heritage, alongside publications highlighting key chapters from the UAE’s history and its rich heritage.

نشارككم جانباً من تاريخ الإمارات وتراثها في جناح الأرشيف والمكتبة الوطنية ضمن معرض أبوظبي الدولي للصيد والفروسية 2026.

استكشفوا الرياضات التراثية، واطّلعوا على نماذج من الأسلحة التي كانت تُستخدم في الحصون والقلاع والسفن، إلى جانب مجموعة من الإصدارات والوثائق التاريخية التي تسلّط الضوء على محطات من مسيرة الدولة وموروثها الثقافي الأصيل.

بانتظاركم لغاية 6 سبتمبر في جناحنا رقم 085-5 في القاعة 5، لنعيش تجربة تفاعلية تجمع بين التاريخ والتراث، ونتشارك خلالها قصصاً من إرثنا العريق.
