The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) and the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen capital market cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding resulted from the official visit of the Colombo Stock Exchange to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in January 2026 which was facilitated by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.

The partnership focuses on promoting knowledge sharing, enhancing technological and post-trade collaboration, and unlocking mutual cross-market access. The initial dialogue leading to the agreement was set in motion by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the UAE, Dr. Arusha Cooray, on the sidelines of the CSE’s flagship ‘Invest Sri Lanka’ Investor Forum hosted in the UAE earlier this year.

Under the framework of the MoU, both bourses will share market expertise across operational and regulatory functions, including electronic trading systems, technical architecture, market surveillance, clearing, and settlement capabilities. The agreement also outlines plans for joint conferences, educational initiatives, and collaborative knowledge transfer surrounding new financial instruments, notably Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and derivatives.
Significantly, the agreement opens the pathway for the CSE to explore joining the Tabadul Hub, Abu Dhabi’s dedicated digital exchange network designed to facilitate mutual market access across the Middle East and international markets. Integrating with the network is anticipated to enhance foreign institutional access to the Sri Lankan equity market while expanding channels for local investors to tap into regional and global liquidity pools.
