Thank you to everyone who joined us in Paris on 26 March 2026 for “The arbitrateAD Perspective on the Role and Virtues of the Modern Arbitral Institution – A Conversation with Gary Born and Maria Chedid.”

The discussion brought together an exceptional group of practitioners for a dynamic and engaging exchange, moderated by the Centre’s Registrar, Maria Mazzawi (FCIArb), on the evolving role of arbitral institutions and the ‘grey-zone’ decisions shaping modern arbitration.

We are grateful to Gary Born, Vice Chair of arbitrateAD, and Maria Chedid, President of the arbitrateAD Court of Arbitration, for their insight and expertise, and to Bredin Prat for hosting us. Thank you to all who joined us: it was a pleasure to share this conversation with such an engaged audience.

arbitrateAD has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Abu Dhabi Family Business Council, an affiliate of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, marking a major step forward in supporting the long-term sustainability and governance of family-owned enterprises in the UAE.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation aimed at enhancing the legal resilience of family businesses, and developing effective mechanisms for the resolution of family business disputes. Under the MOU, both entities will work together to promote adjudicator appointment, mediation, and arbitration as trusted tools for safeguarding commercial and family relationships and ensuring smooth generational transitions as well as dispute settlement, in a private and confidential setting, and in line with international best standards.

وقّع مركز أبوظبي الدولي للتحكيم مذكرة تفاهم رائدة مع مجلس أبوظبي للشركات العائلية، التابع لغرفة تجارة وصناعة أبوظبي، في خطوة استراتيجية تهدف إلى دعم الاستدامة طويلة المدى للشركات العائلية وتعزيز أطر الحوكمة في دولة الإمارات.

The Abu Dhabi International Arbitration Centre (arbitrateAD) was pleased to welcome a full‑house audience to its Annual Arbitration Court Summit on 28 January 2026. The Summit offered an exclusive behind‑the‑scenes look into the inner workings of arbitrateAD’s international Court of Arbitration - comprised of globally recognised legal and arbitration experts from around the world - and explored what this means for the Centre’s growing caseload.

The Summit also featured a series of key institutional announcements, including the launch of arbitrateAD’s new Mediation Rules and Adjudicator Appointment Rules. These developments mark an important expansion of the Centre’s service offerings and reinforce its commitment to accessible, efficient, and world‑class dispute resolution.

Led by Ms Maria Chedid, President of the Arbitration Court, the event also highlighted arbitrateAD’s and Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a leading regional and global hub for dispute resolution.

The Summit was attended by H.E. Dr Ali bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Board of the Abu Dhabi International Arbitration Centre; Mr Gary Born, Vice Chair of the Arbitration Court; Board Members H.E. Khaled AlFahim and H.E. Salem Al Darei; Ms Maria Mazzawi, Registrar of the Centre; as well as senior judges, leading international arbitration practitioners, decision‑makers, and business leaders from the UAE and around the world.

استقبل مركز أبوظبي الدولي للتحكيم حضورًا كامل العدد في قمة محكمة التحكيم السنوية التي عُقدت في 28 يناير 2026، حيث قدّمت القمة نظرة حصرية على آليات عمل محكمة التحكيم الدولية التابعة للمركز، والتي تضم نخبة من أبرز الخبراء القانونيين والمحكّمين المعترف بهم عالميًا من مختلف أنحاء العالم، كما ناقشت دلالات ذلك على النمو المتسارع في عدد القضايا التي يتولاها المركز.

كما شهدت القمة سلسلة من الإعلانات المؤسسية المهمة، شملت إطلاق قواعد جديدة والتي تمثل توسعًا جوهريًا في نطاق خدمات المركز وتعكس التزامه بتقديم حلول تسوية منازعات متاحة وفعّالة وعالمية المستوى.
وقادت القمة السيدة ماريا شديد، رئيسة محكمة التحكيم، مسلّطةً الضوء على الدور المتنامي لكلٍّ من مركز أبوظبي الدولي للتحكيم وإمارة أبوظبي كمركزين رائدين إقليميًا وعالميًا في مجال تسوية المنازعات.

وشهدت القمة حضور سعادة الدكتور علي بن حرمل الظاهري، رئيس مجلس إدارة مركز أبوظبي الدولي للتحكيم؛ والسيد غاري بورن، نائب رئيس محكمة التحكيم؛ وأعضاء مجلس الإدارة سعادة خالد الفهيم وسعادة سالم الداري؛ إلى جانب الآنسة ماريا مزّاوي، أمين سجلّ المركز؛ ونخبة من كبار القضاة وأبرز ممارسي التحكيم الدولي وصنّاع القرار وقادة الأعمال من داخل دولة الإمارات ومختلف أنحاء العالم.
