Shockwave Adventures Earns Prestigious United States Recognition for Outstanding Service on the Zambezi River

VICTORIA FALLS – Zimbabwe's adventure tourism sector has received another significant international endorsement after *Shockwave Adventures* , a leading rafting company based in Victoria Falls and led by renowned river guide *Mr Philani Moyo* , was honoured with a United States Department of State Certificate of Appreciation. The award, presented in Zimbabwe in July 2026 and signed by the United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Pamela M. Tremont, recognises the company's `"outstanding partnership and exceptional commitment in the pursuit of our common goals and support of our international visitors and employees of U.S. missions along the Zambezi River."` The recognition is a remarkable testament to the professionalism, unwavering dedication to safety, and world-class service that Shockwave Adventures continues to provide on one of the world's most iconic rivers.

A man widely known as Philani *"Ngamanzi"* Moyo, whose name has become synonymous with both excellence on the Zambezi River and community service, the soft speaking man could not hide his joy after receiving the prestigious accolade. Beyond adventure tourism, Mr Moyo is celebrated for his philanthropic work through the donation of solar-powered boreholes to schools and rural communities in Hwange District, bringing clean water to hundreds of families. Speaking after receiving the award, the humble businessman said: `"Honoured and humbled by this recognition from Her Excellency Ambassador Pamela M. Tremont and the United States Embassy in Zimbabwe. Thank you for acknowledging our commitment to safety, adventure, and protecting lives on the Zambezi River. We deeply appreciate this partnership. We freely invite the world to visit Zimbabwe and enjoy Victoria falls adventures"` His words reflected the humility of a leader whose actions have consistently spoken louder than words.

Mr Moyo's contribution extends far beyond operating one of Zimbabwe's leading rafting companies. Through Shockwave Adventures, he has repeatedly answered the call during emergencies on the Zambezi River, working alongside authorities in rescue and recovery operations whenever tragedy has struck. Many still remember the difficult mission to retrieve the bodies of pastors who drowned during a baptism ceremony on the Zambezi River, where his expertise proved invaluable. His compassion has never been confined to Victoria Falls alone. During the devastating Cyclone Idai disaster in Chimanimani, Mr Moyo also joined humanitarian rescue efforts, demonstrating courage, empathy and selfless service. His willingness to put his skills at the service of humanity has earned him respect as a leader whose commitment reaches far beyond business.

The latest honour comes only weeks after another landmark achievement for Shockwave Adventures on the international stage. The company proudly represented Zimbabwe at the World Rafting Cup in Kenya, finishing in an impressive fourth position against some of the world's finest rafting teams. As the only Zimbabwean team to compete at the prestigious tournament, Shockwave Adventures once again flew the national flag with distinction. Their success presents a compelling case for the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) to provide greater support towards competitive rafting. With climate-related disasters becoming increasingly frequent, Zimbabwe has an opportunity to establish specialised rafting and swift-water rescue training academies that would not only produce world-class athletes but also strengthen national disaster preparedness and emergency response capacity.

This latest recognition is not only a victory for Shockwave Adventures but also a major boost for Zimbabwe's tourism industry. It reinforces international confidence in Victoria Falls as a safe, professional and world-class adventure tourism destination while complementing President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa's Vision 2030, which seeks to transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy through sustainable tourism growth and strategic international partnerships. Such global recognition enhances the country's reputation, encourages greater investor and visitor confidence, and showcases the exceptional talent that Zimbabwe possesses. It also sends a powerful message that local companies, through professionalism, integrity and excellence, can compete with the very best in the world while proudly carrying the Zimbabwean flag onto the global stage.

`VICE PRESIDENT MOHADI COMMISSIONS KASAMBABEZI BORDER POST, OPENING A NEW CHAPTER FOR BINGA'S ECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION`

*BINGA, Matabeleland North Province* – Vice President Colonel (Rtd) Dr. Kembo Campbell Dugish Mohadi officially commissioned the Kasambabezi Border Post offices and clearance hall Today Friday, describing the project as a major milestone in Zimbabwe's drive to modernise border infrastructure, strengthen regional trade, and accelerate socio-economic development in previously underserved communities. The ceremony brought together senior Government officials, traditional leaders, security services, stakeholders, and representatives from Zambia, underscoring the strategic importance of the border post to bilateral relations and regional integration.

Welcoming the Vice President and dignitaries, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland North, Hon. Richard Moyo, said the commissioning represented far more than the opening of a new Government facility. He described it as a symbol of restored dignity and a practical demonstration of the Second Republic's unwavering commitment to inclusive development that leaves no one and no place behind. Hon. Richard Moyo noted that Binga District, which has endured decades of developmental challenges following the displacement of communities during the construction of the Kariba Dam, is now witnessing unprecedented transformation under the leadership of President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa through Vision 2030, devolution, and people-centred development programmes.

Hon. Richard Moyo highlighted the significant developmental gains already realised across Binga District, including, expanded electrification, enhanced health and education facilities, water development projects, and strengthened social services. He emphasised that devolution funding has empowered local authorities to prioritise projects identified by communities themselves, ensuring that Government interventions directly respond to the aspirations and needs of local citizens. He further stated that the Kasambabezi Border Post would become a strategic gateway connecting Zimbabwe with Zambia and the wider Southern African region, facilitating trade, investment, tourism, and employment creation while stimulating economic activity throughout Matabeleland North Province.
Addressing delegates during the official opening.

Vice President Mohadi reaffirmed the Government's commitment to modernising critical infrastructure as a catalyst for national development and regional economic integration. The commissioning of the Kasambabezi Border Post marks another significant step in the implementation of the Second Republic's infrastructure development agenda and reinforces Zimbabwe's commitment to building efficient border management systems that promote commerce, strengthen cross-border cooperation, and improve service delivery.

The new facility is expected to unlock fresh economic opportunities for Binga District while positioning the area as an important trade and tourism corridor, complemented by its unique lakefront attractions, abundant wildlife, and rich Tonga cultural heritage. Through such strategic investments, the Government continues to advance the national vision of achieving an upper-middle-income economy by 2030 while ensuring balanced and inclusive development across all provinces.
