**HWANGE DISTRICT STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO VISION 2030**

Hwange Rural District Council hosted a high-level Stakeholder Engagement Meeting to review the implementation of Zimbabwe's Vision 2030 and strengthen Service Delivery across the district.

The meeting was convened on behalf of Hon. Richard Moyo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland North Province, and was led by Ms. Nditwani Muleya, Permanent Secretary for Monitoring and Evaluation in the Office of the President and Cabinet.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders, including Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Traditional Leaders, Councillors, the Private Sector, Civil Society Organisations, Churches, Women's and Youth Groups, Representatives of People Living with Disabilities, and other community leaders.

A major focus of the meeting was the urgent need to improve service delivery and ensure that all development programmes are aligned with the aspirations of Vision 2030. Stakeholders were challenged to identify gaps in implementation and work collectively towards sustainable development.

Ms. Muleya expressed concern over the state of road infrastructure in Matabeleland North Province, highlighting the importance of accountability and effective monitoring of ongoing rehabilitation projects. She emphasized that improved roads are critical for economic growth, investment attraction, tourism development, and access to essential services.

The meeting also highlighted key national development targets, including:
βœ… Improved access to healthcare services, with no citizen expected to travel more than 5 kilometres to the nearest clinic.
βœ… Increased access to clean water through the provision of at least one borehole per village.
βœ… Attainment of Upper Middle-Income Economy status by 2030.
βœ… Strengthened Ward Development Planning to ensure communities drive their own development priorities.

Stakeholders were further encouraged to harness the district's abundant natural resources, including the Zambezi, Matetsi, Lukosi, Deka, and Nyantue rivers, as well as the vast tourism opportunities presented by proximity to Hwange National Park.

Speaking during the meeting, Hwange Rural District Council Chairperson, Cllr P. Mpofu, called upon all stakeholders to realign their programmes and strategies with the district development agenda, emphasizing that collective action and unity of purpose are essential for achieving meaningful and sustainable development.

**Together, through collaboration, accountability, and effective planning, Hwange District can unlock its full potential and contribute significantly towards the achievement of Vision 2030.**

🌍 HWANGE RURAL DISTRICT COUNCIL HOSTS LANDMARK 3-DAY CLIMATE CHANGE & CARBON CREDITS WORKSHOP 🌱

Hwange Rural District Council recently hosted a significant 3-day workshop at the Marian Shrine, St Mary’s Mission in Lukosi, bringing together government departments, private sector players, development partners, community representatives, and environmental stakeholders to discuss climate action, sustainability, and carbon credit opportunities for the district and the nation at large.

The workshop was facilitated by Paprum Green, an organisation dedicated to transforming the SADC region into one of the world’s most powerful carbon sinks through inclusive climate innovation, biochar-centred infrastructure, and high-integrity carbon markets that regenerate ecosystems, empower communities, and accelerate the journey toward Net Zero emissions.

A major focus of the workshop was the understanding and development of Carbon Credits and Carbon Markets.

Carbon credits are environmental certificates earned through projects that reduce, avoid, or remove greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere. These include activities such as reforestation, forest conservation, renewable energy projects, sustainable agriculture, waste management, and biochar production.

The workshop highlighted how communities, local authorities, and companies can benefit from carbon credit programmes by:
βœ… Protecting forests and wildlife ecosystems
βœ… Reducing environmental degradation
βœ… Promoting sustainable land use practices
βœ… Creating green jobs and economic opportunities
βœ… Attracting climate finance and international investment
βœ… Supporting community development projects
βœ… Enhancing resilience against climate change

Facilitators also explained the importance of high-integrity carbon markets, where verified environmental projects can generate financial returns while preserving natural resources for future generations.

Hwange District, known for its rich wildlife, vast forests, mining activities, and natural resources, was identified as having enormous potential to participate in climate-smart projects that balance environmental conservation with economic growth.

The workshop marks an important step toward positioning Hwange District as a leader in sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and climate innovation within Zimbabwe and the SADC region.
