The SADC Committee of Ministers responsible for Agriculture, Food Security, Fisheries and Aquaculture met in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, on 29th May 2026 to discuss measures aimed at strengthening regional food security and resilience.

The meeting called for coordinated regional action on fertilizer harmonisation, crop development, and the control of transboundary animal diseases, particularly Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). Ministers emphasized the importance of enhanced cross-border surveillance, coordinated vaccination programmes, and stronger veterinary systems to safeguard agricultural productivity and trade within the region.

Botswana was represented by the Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Honourable Dr Edwin G. Dikoloti, who joined fellow SADC Ministers in deliberating on strategies to strengthen food systems and promote sustainable agricultural development across the region.

Botswana Candidate Vying for the International Telecommunications Unit (ITU) - Radio Regulations Board (RRB).

The 2nd African Preparatory Meeting (APM26-2) for the preparation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26) was convened by the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) and graciously hosted by the Government of Zimbabwe through the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ). The meeting was held at the Cresta Sprayview Hotel in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, from 27th to 29th May 2026, following the ITU Regional Development Forum for Africa (RDF-AFR) held from 25th to 26th May 2026.

The meeting brought together more than 230 participants from 35 ATU Member States to deliberate on Africa’s common positions ahead of PP-26 and other key telecommunications and ICT policy matters.

Botswana participated actively in the meeting, with a primary focus on contributing to the development of Africa’s common positions and advancing its campaign for election to the ITU Radio Regulations Board (RRB) for the 2027–2030 term. The Botswana delegation was led by the Ambassador of Botswana to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Mrs Sarah S. Molosiwa, who spearheaded the country’s campaign efforts during the meeting.

A key component of Botswana’s engagement was the promotion of Ms. Basebi Mosinyi’s candidature for election to the ITU Radio Regulations Board. Her candidature reflects Botswana’s commitment to contributing to the development and effective implementation of international radio regulatory frameworks and strengthening Africa’s representation in global telecommunications governance.

The 63rd Africa Day Celebrations were commemorated on 8th June 2026 at the Museum of African Liberation Heritage Village in Harare, Zimbabwe, bringing together African diplomatic missions, government officials, and members of the public in a colourful celebration of the continent’s rich cultural heritage.

The Embassy of Botswana in Harare proudly joined fellow African missions in showcasing the diverse traditions that make Africa unique. Through traditional attire, authentic cuisine, cultural displays, and shared experiences, the event highlighted the beauty of our customs, the strength of our diversity, and the enduring spirit of African unity.

On 13th May 2026, Her Excellency Sarah S. Molosiwa participated at the Sixth Ordinary Meeting of SADC Ministers Responsible for Disaster Risk Management, in Masvingo, Republic of Zimbabwe.

The meeting, hosted by the Southern African Development Community, reviewed progress in the implementation of regional disaster risk management programmes and projects, including the operationalisation of the SADC Humanitarian and Emergency Operations Centre (SHOC). Ministers also considered a number of strategic and operational instruments aimed at strengthening disaster risk management interventions across the region.

The meeting was officially opened by Velenkosini Fiki Hlabisa, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs of South Africa and Chairperson of the Committee of SADC Ministers Responsible for Disaster Risk Management. In his remarks, he underscored the transboundary nature of disasters, noting that tropical cyclones, floods, droughts, wildfires, disease outbreaks, and other hazards continue to affect communities and livelihoods across the region, causing significant damage to infrastructure and economies.

The games brought together the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe and African Missions accredited to the Republic of Zimbabwe in a vibrant celebration of African unity, friendship and solidarity through sport.

The event provided an opportunity for strengthening relations, promoting teamwork and celebrating the shared values and rich cultural heritage of the African continent. The objective of the Foreign Policy Pitso is to provide a platform for dialogue among stakeholders which include; policy makers, academics, civil society, traditional leadership and the private sector, focusing discussions on strategic priorities, assessment of emerging trends, challenges and opportunities, including how to strategically align these priorities with the country's foreign policy.

Following the passing of Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae, former President of the Republic of Botswana, dignitaries have started to arrive at the Embassy of the Republic of Botswana in Harare, Zimbabwe to sign the Book of Condolences and express their sympathies.

The Embassy has become a focal point of reflection and remembrance, as leaders, diplomats and the community honour a statesman whose leadership was defined by stability, economic stewardship, and commitment to democratic governance. PUBLIC NOTICE

The Embassy of the Republic of Botswana in Harare, Zimbabwe regrets to inform of the passing of the former and Third President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae, who passed away on the 8th of May 2026.

His Excellency Dr. Festus G. Mogae served Botswana in the public service with honour, integrity and extraordinary diligence, as the Governor of the Bank of Botswana, Minister of Finance, Vice President and President of the Republic of Botswana from 1998 – 2008.

He was a remarkable leader who served Botswana with distinction including in international organisations such as International Monetary Fund (IMF).

As one of the architects of Botswana’s economic development, he championed Botswana’s development trajectory. His profound leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS, helped Botswana’s strong national response, earning him respect across the globe.

Former President Mogae is a recipient of several honours including the prestigious Ibrahim Prize for achievement in African Leadership, demonstrating good governance and adherence to democratic principles.

We therefore inform that the book of condolences will be open from 12th May to 15th May 2026 at the Embassy, 22 Philips Avenue, Belgravia from 1000hours to 1500hours.

May His Excellency Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae’s soul rest in eternal peace.
