PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORT AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT CONDUCTS VERIFICATION VISIT IN GOKWE
Yesterday, Gokwe Town Council hosted the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport and Infrastructure Development for a verification and oversight visit focused on the utilisation of ZINARA funds and fuel allocations towards road infrastructure development.
The delegation comprised Honourable Members of Parliament, Parliament Secretariat officials and representatives from the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA). The local delegation included the District Development Coordinator (DDC), representatives from Government Departments, the Council Chairperson, Councillors and Council employees, who participated in the engagement and verification exercise.
The visit focused on the utilisation of ZINARA funds and fuel, acquittal performance, and ZINARA monitoring and evaluation systems. The team reviewed the use of funds and fuel towards road works, including road grading, gravel haulage, compaction, drainage construction, reinforced concrete drains, culverts and other related infrastructure. The programme also included a tour of various roads, drains and culverts constructed through the ZINARA-supported programme.
On behalf of Gokwe Town Council, Acting Town Secretary Mr A. Nyandoro warmly welcomed the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee and all stakeholders, expressing appreciation for Parliamentβs oversight role in strengthening accountability and improving service delivery.
Gokwe Town Council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and full disclosure, assuring the delegation that Council records, projects and relevant information were available for verification. The Council also welcomed the guidance and recommendations arising from the engagement as it continues working towards sustainable road infrastructure development for the people of Gokwe.
