# Refresher Training for SMAG: Enhancing Safe Motherhood Practices in Chunga, Lusaka #

Currently, a refresher training program for the Safe Motherhood Action Group (SMAG) is underway at St John Zambia Office, focusing on vital skills and knowledge to promote safe motherhood practices in the community. This initiative aims to empower local SMAG (health workers) with updated information and best practices to improve maternal and child health outcomes.

Objectives of the Training

1. Update on Maternal Health Guidelines
- Participants will learn about the latest protocols and guidelines for maternal care, including prenatal, childbirth, and postpartum services.

2. Skills Enhancement
- Training includes hands-on workshops that cover essential skills such as antenatal assessments, emergency response during childbirth, and postpartum care techniques.

3. Community Engagement Strategies
- Attendees will be equipped with tools to effectively engage the community in discussions about safe motherhood, addressing cultural beliefs, and promoting health-seeking behavior.

4. Data Collection and Monitoring
- Training on effective data collection methods will help track maternal health trends, ensuring that interventions are evidence-based and tailored to community needs.

Importance of the Training

This refresher training is crucial for reinforcing the knowledge of SMAG members, ensuring they can provide high-quality care to pregnant women and new mothers. By enhancing their skills and understanding of safe motherhood practices, SMAG can significantly contribute to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in Chunga, fostering a healthier future for families in the region.

Through continuous education and community support, we can create an environment where every mother and child receives the care they deserve
