Yesterday, I had the privilege of conducting the first of many Entrepreneurship Workshops for youths in Siavonga District.

The aim of this initiative is to equip our young people with practical entrepreneurship knowledge and skills so that they can actively participate in building sustainable businesses and improving their livelihoods.

I would like to acknowledge the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema and the United Party for National Development (UPND) government for introducing various youth empowerment initiatives that are creating opportunities for young people across the country.

However, for our youths to fully benefit from these opportunities, it is important that they have the right knowledge on how to access and utilize them. That is why these workshops are important — to guide, mentor, and empower young people with the mindset and skills needed to succeed in business.

I also encouraged the youths to look around their communities, identify challenges, and turn those challenges into business opportunities. Many successful businesses are built on solving problems within our communities.

I am encouraged by the enthusiasm and participation from the youths who attended the workshop. This is only the beginning. Together, we will continue creating platforms that empower our youths to become job creators and not just job seekers.

Today, as Zambia commemorates Youth Day, we celebrate the energy, creativity and resilience that our young people continue to contribute to national development. Youths are the driving force of our communities and the future of our country.

I wish to commend the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema for prioritizing young people through job creation, creating an enabling environment for youth entrepreneurs, and introducing internship opportunities in government for students and graduates.

As your local friend and brother in Siavonga District, I have taken keen interest in the direction being set for the youths. It is for this reason that I have resolved to take practical steps to ensure our young people are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge and capacity to benefit from the many opportunities ahead.

I will therefore be conducting a series of free entrepreneurship workshops aimed at empowering youths with business skills and practical knowledge to help them start and grow their ventures. I encourage every young person to take advantage of these opportunities.

As we celebrate Youth Day, let us do so responsibly and always observe the rule of law.

Today marks a very important day in the history of our country as we celebrate women across Zambia and around the world.

As we commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day, it is important to acknowledge and appreciate the milestone achieved under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, who has assented to legislation guaranteeing parliamentary and local government seats aimed at enhancing women’s participation in leadership and decision-making.

This is a significant achievement that gives us even greater reason to celebrate the progress being made toward gender equality and women’s empowerment in our country.

To the hardworking woman in the market, the farmer in the field, the teacher in the classroom, the nurse in the hospital, and every woman contributing to the growth of our communities — today we celebrate you.

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 31:23 that “Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.” This scripture highlights the powerful role a woman plays in strengthening families and shaping society. Behind the success of many men is a strong woman who quietly and diligently makes things happen.

Allow me therefore to wish all women across Siavonga and the entire nation a joyful and meaningful International Women's Day.

Inspired by the commitment shown by the government under President Hakainde Hichilema to empower young people, I have voluntarily decided to conduct free entrepreneurship workshops for youths in Siavonga.

The aim is to equip young people with practical business knowledge and skills so they can take advantage of opportunities such as loans and grants available through CDF and other empowerment initiatives.

I therefore encourage all youths with business ideas or those already running small businesses to take advantage of this opportunity to learn, grow and position themselves for success.
