PRESIDENT HICHILEMA CONCLUDES TWO-DAY WORKING VISIT TO WESTERN PROVINCE IN SENANGA DISTRICT

Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema has today addressed residents of Senanga District, marking the successful conclusion of his two-day working visit to Western Province.

Earlier in the day, the President held public engagements in Shangombo, Nalolo and Limulunga districts, where he interacted with members of the public on Government programmes, national priorities and ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of citizens.

Addressing the gathering in Senanga, President Hichilema reaffirmed Government's commitment to accelerating development across Western Province through sustained investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, employment creation and economic empowerment.

The President highlighted several key development initiatives for the Province, including the construction of a modern market in Senanga, continued works on the Senanga–Mata Road, the improvement of health facilities, enhanced mobile network connectivity, the completion of Lewanika University, and the upgrading of Mongu Airport into an international airport to unlock the Province's economic and tourism potential.

He further emphasized that Government remains committed to ensuring that every district benefits from national development and that no community will be left behind as Zambia advances its socio-economic transformation agenda.

President Hichilema thanked the people of Western Province for the warm reception accorded to him throughout his two-day working visit and encouraged them to continue supporting Government programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and fostering national development.

The President has since concluded his two-day working visit to Western Province, during which he engaged communities in Sesheke, Mulobezi, Mwandi, Shangombo, Nalolo, Limulunga and Senanga districts, listening to their concerns while outlining Government's vision for inclusive development and shared prosperity.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TAKES DEVELOPMENT AGENDA TO SESHEKE DISTRICT

Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema has today addressed residents of Sesheke District as he continued his two-day working visit to Western Province.

Earlier in the day, the President held public engagements in Mulobezi and Mwandi districts, where he interacted with members of the public on Government's development agenda and national priorities.

Addressing the gathering in Sesheke, President Hichilema reaffirmed Government's unwavering commitment to accelerating development across Western Province, with a focus on improving infrastructure, expanding access to quality education and healthcare, enhancing food security, creating employment opportunities, and promoting economic growth.

The President highlighted the continued implementation of the Free Education Policy, describing it as a transformative programme that is enabling more children, particularly those from vulnerable households, to access education without financial barriers.

President Hichilema further announced that the contractor is now on site for the Sesheke–Kazungula–Livingstone Road project, marking another significant step towards improving connectivity, facilitating trade, tourism, and unlocking the economic potential of the region.

On trade and commerce, the President assured traders affected by the Katima Market fire in 2023 that Government will provide financial assistance to support their recovery while also reconstructing the market to provide a safer and more conducive trading environment.

In the education sector, President Hichilema announced that Sesheke Boarding Secondary School will be rehabilitated, adding that Government is also committed to constructing more boarding schools across Western Province to improve access to quality education, especially for learners from remote areas.

The President emphasized that Government remains committed to ensuring that development reaches every part of the country and that no community is left behind as Zambia advances its national development agenda.

Following the public engagement in Sesheke, President Hichilema has proceeded to Sioma District, where he is expected to hold another public engagement with residents.

PS AKAPELWA WELCOMES INCOMING COMMISSIONER OF POLICE

Western Province Incoming Commissioner of Police Mubita Nawa has paid a courtesy call on Western Province Permanent Secretary, Simomo Akapelwa at the Provincial Administration offices in Mongu.

Commissioner Nawa was accompanied by the outgoing Western Province Commissioner of Police, Rae Hamoonga, who has since been transferred to Copperbelt Province.

The visit marked the formal introduction of the incoming Commissioner and underscored the continued commitment of the Zambia Police Service and the Provincial Administration to strengthening collaboration in safeguarding peace, security and public order throughout Western Province.

Mr. Akapelwa welcomed Commissioner Nawa to the Province and assured him of the Provincial Administration's support as he assumes his new responsibilities.

He expressed confidence that the existing cordial working relationship between the two institutions would continue for the benefit of the people of Western Province.

PS Akapelwa also paid tribute to Commissioner Hamoonga for his dedicated service and valuable contribution to maintaining law and order during his tenure in the Province, and wished him every success in his new assignment in Copperbelt Province.

PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA TO CONTINUE WORKING VISIT TO REMAINING DISTRICTS OF WESTERN PROVINCE

The public is hereby informed that Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema will, on Thursday, 30th and Friday, 31st July 2026, continue his working visit to the remaining districts of Western Province.

On Thursday, 30th July 2026, the President is scheduled to visit Mulobezi, Mwandi, Sesheke Limulunga Districts.

On Friday, 31st July 2026, he will visit Shangombo, Senanga, Nalolo and Sioma.

During the visit, the President will engage with members of the public in the respective districts.

Members of the public are encouraged to turn out in large numbers to welcome the Head of State and participate in the scheduled public engagements.

We urge the general citizenry to conduct themselves in a peaceful, orderly and lawful manner, cooperate with security personnel, and observe all guidance provided by the relevant authorities to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the visit.

The Western Provincial Admistration, has learnt with deep sadness of the passing of Southern Province Permanent Secretary, Dr. Namani Monze.

According to Secretary to the Cabinet Mr. Patrick Kangwa, Dr. Monze, 52, passed away today, Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Choma General Hospital after an illness.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Provincial Administration in Southern Province, friends, colleagues, and the entire Public Service during this difficult time.

May the soul of Dr. Namani Monze rest in eternal peace.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL TAKES CENTRE STAGE IN MONGU

Women's football has taken centre stage in Mongu as the Four-Team Pre-Season Tournament gets underway at Mongu Sports Stadium, bringing together Sepo Queens FC, Hope Queens FC, Nangweshi Queens FC, and ZESCO Ndola Girls FC in an exciting display of talent and competition.

Mongu District Commissioner Mr. Morgan Imasiku Akabeswa is officiating as Guest of Honor at the tournament, reaffirming Government's commitment to sports development and youth empowerment through football.

NEW HEALTH ROOMS, MOTORBIKES TO IMPROVE HEALTHCARE FOR LEARNERS

Western Province Permanent Secretary, Simomo Akapelwa has today officially handed over four motorbikes to the Ministry of Education and commissioned 68 newly constructed health rooms under the School Health Programme at Tungi Primary School in Mongu District.

The four motorbikes have been allocated to District School Health Coordinators in Mongu, Limulunga, Nalolo and Nkeyema districts to strengthen supervision, monitoring, mentorship and service delivery in schools.

The newly commissioned health rooms will provide learners with safe and dedicated spaces for health assessments, treatment, referrals and health education within the school environment.

Healthy Learners Provincial Technical Support Manager, Keith Simbotwe said the investment demonstrates the strong partnership between Government and Healthy Learners in improving access to quality school health services for learners across the Province.

Mr. Akapelwa commended the collaboration between the Provincial Administration, the Ministries of Health and Education, and Healthy Learners, saying the initiative reflects Government's commitment to ensuring that every learner has access to quality healthcare services in schools.

CEEC K10.8 MILLION SENANGA AQUACULTURE PROJECT RECORDS FIRST HARVEST

The K10.8 million Senanga Aquaculture Expansion Project has recorded its first harvest, marking a major milestone in Government's efforts to enhance food security, create jobs and promote citizen economic empowerment in Western Province.

Speaking during the harvest ceremony, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Lemmy Kafwamfwa, said the project demonstrates Government's commitment to transforming rural livelihoods through sustainable aquaculture.

Launched in November 2025, the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) project, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, is benefiting over 400 members from four cooperatives.

The project features 56 floating fish cages on the Zambezi River and is expected to produce over 300 metric tonnes of fish per production cycle, strengthening Zambia's food security while creating income and employment opportunities for local communities.

ZESCO UNITED FC GIRLS TEAM PAYS COURTESY CALL ON WESTERN PROVINCE PERMANENT SECRETARY

Western Province Permanent Secretary, Simomo Akapelwa, today received a courtesy call from a delegation from ZESCO United Football Club, led by Executive Committee Member Ms. Muntanga Sibalwa and Head of Human Capital and Development, Mr. Moses Mwiya.

The delegation informed the Permanent Secretary that the Club's girls' team, ZESCO Ndola Girls, is conducting a 10-day pre-season training camp in Mongu in preparation for the resumption of the local league and the upcoming COSAFA/CAF tournament scheduled for August 2026 in Botswana.

The delegation highlighted the team's outstanding achievements, having emerged as back-to-back ZPL Women's Super League champions (2024/2025 and 2025/2026) and COSAFA/CAF 2025 Qualifier silver medallists, making them one of Zambia's leading women's football teams.

As part of their engagement with the local community, the team is scheduled to participate in a football tournament with local teams on Saturday, 25 July 2026, aimed at strengthening community relations and promoting youth football development in Western Province.

Mr. Akapelwa welcomed the delegation to Western Province and commended ZESCO United Football Club for choosing Mongu as its pre-season training base.

He said the visit reflects growing confidence in the Province's sporting environment and encouraged the team to continue inspiring young people, particularly girls, to pursue excellence through sport.

The Permanent Secretary wished the team a successful training camp and every success as they prepare to represent Zambia at the continental tournament.
