‎The courtesy call was aimed at exploring areas of collaboration in advancing digital transformation and innovation.

‎The engagement focused on strengthening regional cooperation, sharing experiences on digital progress, and identifying opportunities to enhance technology-driven public service delivery between Zambia and Botswana.

‎SMART Zambia's Director of Digital Government Services Mr Mulomba HAMEJA, Assistant Director Digital Government Services Mr Brian NAWA, and part of the Botswana delegation was Ms Maipelo MOGOTSI, Counsellor I - Economic.
‎
‎The meeting reaffirmed the importance of partnerships in driving Africa’s digital future and promoting inclusive technological development across the region.

Over the past three days, the High Commission has welcomed members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, and members of the public who came to pay their last respects to the 3rd President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae, by signing the Book of Condolences.

The High Commission sincerely appreciates the messages of sympathy, solidarity, and support received during this period of mourning.

On Wednesday 13 May 2026, the Africa Group of Ambassadors and High Commissioners Accredited to the Republic of Zambia collectively visited the High Commission to convey their condolences following the passing of the 3rd President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae.

The Ambassadors and High Commissioners expressed their heartfelt sympathies to the Government and people of Botswana and conveyed their condolences to the Acting High Commissioner during the signing of the Book of Condolences.

In response, the Acting High Commissioner, Ms. Oabona Dibeela, expressed sincere appreciation for their solidarity and presence. She noted that their collective condolences reflected the spirit of togertherness and unity that defines Africa, reaffirming the strong fraternal ties and friendship among member states.
The gesture was recognised as both a tribute to Dr. Mogae's legacy of service and a demonstration of the enduring cooperation and mutual respect within the African community.
She conveyed deep gratitude on behalf of Botswana for the support shown during the period of national mourning.

PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA SIGNS BOOK OF CONDOLENCES IN HONOUR OF THE 3RD PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF BOTSWANA

This morning, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Botswana to the Republic of Zambia, Ms. Oabona Dibeela, received the President of the Republic of Zambia, His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, at the Botswana High Commission in Lusaka, where he signed the Book of Condolences in honour of the late 3rd President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr. Festus G. Mogae.

In brief remarks during the visit, President Hichilema described the late Dr. Mogae as a distinguished statesman and an influential figure whose leadership and contribution extended beyond Botswana to the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African continent, and the international community. He noted that Dr. Mogae remained a respected role model and a global political icon whose legacy would continue to inspire generations even beyond his presidency.

PRESIDENT ADVOCATE DUMA BOKO ANNOUNCES THREE DAYS OF NATIONAL MOURNING OF THE THIRD PRESIDENT OF BOTSWANA, FESTUS GONTEBANYE MOGAE

President Duma Boko has announced a three-day period of national mourning following the passing of Former President, His Excellency Festus Gontebanye Mogae.

Addressing the nation on Friday, President Boko said Botswana joins together in mourning and remembrance of a leader whose contribution to national development and public service helped shape the country’s path over several decades.

“As a nation, we grieve the loss of a remarkable leader and servant of the people whose commitment to Botswana remained unwavering throughout his life,” said President Boko, confirming that Former President Mogae passed away in the early hours of Friday morning.

During the mourning period, national flags will be flown at half-mast across the country in honour of the Former Head of State.

Former President Mogae led Botswana from 1998 to 2008 and is widely respected for his disciplined leadership, dedication to good governance and role in strengthening the country’s economic foundations.

President Boko further conveyed condolences to the Mogae family and to the nation, describing the late Former President as a humble and principled leader who served Botswana with honour and distinction. 🕊️
