Afternoons: Sunny & slightly windy. Warm to hot. Temps: 22°C to 31°C ☀️
Nights: Clear & windy at times. Mild to cool.

⚠️ ADVISORY:
1. Keep warm in the mornings and nights. Be alert for possible frost especially in Southern, Western and Central Provinces.
2. Water transport users: Exercise extreme caution. Windy conditions may be hazardous on lakes, rivers & dams.

Pupils recently visited the Zambia Meteorological Department on an educational tour, where they learned how weather observations are collected and transformed into forecasts and early warnings.

WEATHER UPDATE ISSUED 15TH JULY 2026

The Government of Zambia, in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Kingdom’s Met Office, and the World Meteorological Organisation, convened a stakeholder meeting today on the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF).

Implemented through the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment - Zambia via the Zambia Meteorological Department, SOFF aims to:
1. Upgrade and automate 21 existing surface weather observation stations
2. Install 4 new upper-air stations

This investment will enhance the generation of timely weather and climate data to support:
- Anticipatory action and disaster risk reduction
- Climate resilience
- Evidence-based planning in key sectors such as agriculture and water resources

A key step toward strengthening Zambia’s climate information systems and ensuring long-term sustainability.

Strengthening Zambia’s Climate Resilience! 🤝

The Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) under the ministry of Green Economy hosted a vital Stakeholder Engagement Meeting for the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) project!
This initiative is a massive step forward in upgrading our weather and climate monitoring infrastructure to save lives and protect livelihoods.A huge thank you to our incredible partners and stakeholders who joined the dialogue and are helping drive this project forward.

Together, we are building a weather-ready and climate-resilient Zambia! 🇿🇲

🗓️July - September 2026

What to expect this season:
- July: The coldest month 🥶 Highest risk of cold stress + localized frost. Nights will be cool, especially in Ndola, Mkushi, Serenje, Mbala, Senga Hill, Pemba, Choma, Namwala, Mazabuka & Sesheke.
- Days: Warmer than normal across most of Zambia
- 🗓️August - September: Transition to warmer, drier & hotter conditions. Watch out for rapid soil moisture loss, increased fire danger & heat stress.

📌Plan for cold nights + warm afternoons now, then get ready for hot, dry weather from August.
Day-night temperature differences will be big: 13°C to 22°C in most areas.
