‘MINDSET CHANGE IS VERY IMPORTANT TO DEVELOP OUR WARD’, CLLR. BWALYA

7th October, 2021.

Hon. Cllr. BC Bwalya took time to check on some of the pressing issues affecting his Ward. He embarked on inspecting the perennial problem of flood waters that have for number of years left the people of Viswepe/GT Area helpless especially during rain season.

The problem of floods is mainly due to lack of drainages, and that of the stream that stretches from Viswepe/National Housing Authority suburbs up to the ‘Munkoyo’ area. The stream is shallow and it easily bursts letting water flow anyhow leaving a trail of destruction along its way.

However, the Councillor engaged a number of people who are victims and/or live nearby in identifying causes and finding possible solutions. One of the major cause with regards to the the stream is indiscriminate disposal of waste by the community leading to blockage hence the spillover. People have turned the stream into a dump site so as soak away by discharging effluents from their respective pit latrines.

Hon. Cllr. Bwalya called for a mindset change amongst the community members as in as much as he can engage the relevant authorities in working on the stream, if there is no mindset change, work done will equal to zero. He also told them that if need be, they should start effecting citizens arrest on culprits.

He’s promised to engage the Department of Engineering at City Council to find lasting solutions on the floods and has urged the community to work closely with his office to ensure development of Raphael Chota Ward is for them and by them.

Later, in his continued crusade against COVID-19, he visited Big Market to distribute face masks and interact with marketeers.

*IMPACTFUL ENGAGEMENT FOR A COMMON DIRECTION*

28 September, 2021.

A multifaceted development process to realize a greater Raphael Chota Ward is what every person, the community, and all stakeholders are demanding for hence the OPEN DOOR policy by Hon. Cllr. Bwalya.

In his continued familiarization tour and engagement with the community, he was invited by Sr. Paula and her team at St. Paul's Catholic Church Child Protection Centre to find means on how they can create a common direction as regards to vices affecting the community. Notes were exchanged from both sides-the Councillor's and Child Protection Centre-on ways to effectively find holistic approaches in dealing with ills affecting Chipata Compound and surrounding areas.

No one holds the monopoly of intelligence and Hon. Cllr. Bwalya has assured the Centre for he shall work hand-in-hand with them in creating a conducive environment for a better future.

*RAPHAEL CHOTA WARD PF HON. CLLR. BC BWALYA ON A FAMILIARIZATION TOUR*

27 September, 2021.

Hon. Cllr. BC Bwalya has continued his engagement programme with the community to thank them for entrusting him as their representative and also familiarize himself with the challenges, solutions, and opportunities Raphael Chota Ward has. This was coupled with the distribution of face masks to combat the fight against COVID-19 especially in crowded areas like Katambalala Market.

Hon. Cllr. Bwalya also touched on unity of purpose by preaching love and coexistence as the only way of achieving meaningful development. He extended his open door policy to the ruling party youth to work together with his office as this is the only way he, and the people of Raphael Chota, can guarantee a shared and prosperous future.

Servant and effective leadership is what will characterize his tenure, and bridging the gap between leaders and people is what he intends to w**d out as he believes any meaningful and sustainable development can only be achieved when everyone is dancing to the same tune regardless of political affiliation. This is one of his deliberate attempts to create open spaces especially in governance and leadership for the youth and women.

He emphasized on the need for cooperation as a base for developmental agenda in his Ward, and everyone to be a ‘brothers keeper’.
