MY TAKE ON MUFUMBWE HAPPENINGS.
Monday, July 7,2025.
The loss of lives due to illegal mining is a tragic and unfortunate development. These youths engaging in illicit mining activities must be stopped. If they are allowed to operate unchecked, Zambia may degenerate into a state of turmoil, similar to a named neighboring mineral rich country. The consequences could be severe, with civil wars breaking out and the control of mines being determined by the gang with more guns. This outcome must be prevented to safeguard the peace Zambia has enjoyed since independence. Although the current economic situation in our country is not favorable to many, with a high cost of living, lawlessness cannot be tolerated.
Let's work towards mining "our minerals resources" in conformity with government laws and regulations.
And to our law enforcement agencies, the control of illegal mining is necessary but it shouldn't end in death. To my fellow Zambians, I know getting the mining licenses is not cheap, but I encourage people to come together and form partnerships that will make it easy to raise the capital required for government permits and mining machinery for safe mining. These foreign mining companies we have in Zambia are not owned by 1 individual, but are a team of small companies coming together to form conglomerates which we can learn and copy from them.
In my conclusion, iam making an appeal or a reminder to our Republican President,Mr Hakainde Hichilema. Mr President, during our time in opposition, we made a commitment to support our youths by providing them with artisanal mining licenses, giving them preference over foreign nationals; what progress have we made?
May the souls of our departed illegal miners rest in peace.
