🌍 World Food Safety Day Commemoration in Kalulushi District 🍎🥗

Kalulushi District proudly joined the global community in commemorating World Food Safety Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of food safety in protecting public health and preventing foodborne diseases.

The commemoration served as an opportunity to educate communities, food handlers, food business operators, and other stakeholders on the critical role that safe food practices play in ensuring healthy lives and sustainable development. Through awareness activities and public engagement, the district emphasized the shared responsibility of everyone involved in the food chain—from production and processing to preparation and consumption.

Food safety is everyone's business. By adhering to proper hygiene standards, safe food handling practices, and food safety regulations, we can reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses and contribute to healthier communities.

DC's FAMILIARIZATION TOUR

On Tuesday, 26th May 2026, the Kalulushi District Commissioner, Mr. Mubita Ikashakala, accompanied by the District Administrative Officer, Ms. Indiana Sakala, visited the Kalulushi District Health Office (KDHO) as part of his familiarization tour of various departments in the district.

During the visit, the District Health Director, Dr. Mumba Fortune, presented the range of services offered by the health department, highlighting both successes and challenges. The DC was also briefed on his office’s direct responsibilities under the Ministry of Health (MOH) through the district health office.

In his remarks, Mr. Ikashakala expressed gratitude to the department. He pledged that his office would work closely with the District Health Office to address the challenges raised and strengthen stakeholder participation and coordination in promoting quality health services in Kalulushi.

The DC commended the DHO’s effective control of health programs despite existing challenges. He indicated his intention to tour health facilities within the district. Further, he encouraged health staff to maintain professionalism and good attitude emphasizing that their conduct reflects the image of the Government.

📍 The Kalulushi District Health Office, with support from Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), successfully conducted a training for Community Surveillance Assistants aimed at strengthening mortality, pregnancy, and pregnancy outcome surveillance under the Zambia Sample Registration System (SRS).

The training was officially graced by the District Health Director Dr. Mumba Fortune.

The training equipped participants comprising 12 Community Surveillance Assistants and 12 Facility supervisors across 12 wards, with the knowledge, practical skills, and competencies required to effectively carry out community-based surveillance and contribute to improved public health data for informed decision-making.

Technical Support Supervision

As part of the routine activities undertaken by the Kalulushi District Health Office to provide leadership and oversight to the health facilities under its jurisdiction, today, the District Health Director, Dr. Mumba Fortune accompanied by the Senior Clinical Care Officer Mr. Chibuye Patrick and the District Pharmacist Ms. Nasilele Sinonge conducted a routine monitoring and technical support supervision visit to Chambishi Mini-Hospital which is led by Dr. Mumba Chisenga, the Medical Officer Incharge.

The team focused on monitoring staff adherence to duty timetables, assessing stock levels of medicines and other medical supplies, laboratory equipment, evaluating facility cleanliness, and reviewing the patient referral system, with particular attention to antenatal risk registers.
Overall, the visit was found to be satisfactory.
