CHILILABOMBWE CDF AMBULANCE COMMISSIONED

Chililabombwe, 5th June 2026

Chililabombwe District Commissioner (DC), Mr. Kelly Jibinga, has today 5th June 2026 commissioned a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) ambulance for Chililabombwe Constituency during a handover ceremony held at the Civic Centre.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Jibinga expressed gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, for Government's decision to provide ambulances to constituencies through the Constituency Development Fund.

He said the initiative will help address challenges related to the transportation of patients and improve access to healthcare services.

The District Commissioner noted that the ambulance has come at the right time, as it will bring health services closer to the people of Chililabombwe and improve emergency response within the district.

Mr. Jibinga further stated that through the Constituency Development Fund, several maternity annexes have been constructed across the district and the new ambulance is another important milestone in strengthening healthcare service delivery.

And Chililabombwe Constituency Development Fund Committee Chairperson, Pastor Steven Kase, commended the Republican President for increasing the CDF allocation which has contributed to developmental projects and improved service delivery in the district.

Meanwhile, Chililabombwe Municipal Council Town Clerk, Mrs. Shilla Songolo, disclosed that the ambulance was procured at a total cost of K2.7 million.

She thanked all stakeholders for their support towards the development of the district and urged Hospital Staff to ensure proper care and maintenance of the Ambulance to guarantee its longevity and effectiveness.

In a vote of thanks, Chililabombwe District Health Director, Dr. Shamilando Chembo, welcomed the addition of the new ambulance, stating that it will greatly reduce challenges associated with transporting critically ill patients.

Dr. Chembo explained that before the arrival of the new ambulance, the district had only one operational ambulance, a situation that made it difficult to adequately respond to the increasing number of referrals and medical emergencies.

He thanked Government for providing the modern ambulance, which is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment that will enhance emergency healthcare services in the district.

Kasumbalesa-5th June 2026

Chililabombwe Municipal Council today joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Environment Day under the theme, β€œInspired by Nature for Climate Action; For Our Future.”

The district-wide commemoration was marked by a clean-up exercise held at Kasumbalesa Market, aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and raising awareness on proper waste management.

Speaking during the event, the District Commissioner Mr. Kelly Jibinga emphasized the importance of responsible waste management and environmental protection.

He noted that Chililabombwe District has already experienced the effects of climate change, citing the wash-away of Kakoso Bridge as one of the consequences.

Mr. Jibinga said the choice of Kasumbalesa as the venue was deliberate because it is one of the areas that generates large volumes of waste within the district.

β€œWe have a lot of work to do in educating residents and traders on the importance of behaviour change and personal responsibility in managing the waste we generate,” he said.

He called on all stakehokders and members of the public to work together in ensuring proper waste disposal and maintaining a clean environment especially at the border.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Zambia institute of Environmental Health Chairperson Mr Oswell Kameli commended Chililabombwe District for making deliberate efforts to care for the environment and for actively participating in World Environment Day activities.

β€œAs Environmental Health Practitioners, we are pleased with the commitment being shown by Chililabombwe District. We remain ready to support all environmental protection initiatives being undertaken in the district,” the Chairperson said.

CHILILABOMBWE DISTRICT COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE ACTION TO PREVENT EBOLA TRANSMISSION

Chililabombwe – 3rd June 2026

Chililabombwe District Commissioner, Mr. Kelly Jibinga, has called on all stakeholders to work together in strengthening Ebola preparedness and prevention measures in the district following reports of an Ebola outbreak in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Speaking during the District Multi Sectoral Stakeholders Preparedness and Prevention Meeting held at Chililabombwe District Hospital, Mr. Jibinga stressed the need for immediate and coordinated action to prevent the disease from entering the district and the country.

He noted that Chililabombwe shares close links with the DRC through the Kasumbalesa Border, making the district vulnerable to cross-border transmission of infectious diseases.

"All stakeholders must take proactive steps to fight and prevent Ebola transmission. If this matter is taken lightly, the disease could spread not only in Chililabombwe but throughout Zambia," Mr. Jibinga said.

He added that although Zambia has not recorded any Ebola cases, the country must remain vigilant and continue implementing preventive measures to maintain its Ebola-free status.

Meanwhile, during a presentation at the meeting, Chililabombwe District Senior Health Environmental Officer Mr Kalaluka Mutumwenu urged community leaders, including religious leaders, to help disseminate accurate and factual information about Ebola prevention and control measures.

Members of the public were encouraged to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as:
》Diarrhoea
》Vomiting
》Headache
》Skin rash
》High fever
》Muscle pain
》Unexplained bleeding
Residents were advised to report suspected cases to the nearest health facility without delay.

The Senior Health Environmental Officer further emphasized the importance of regular hand hygiene, early reporting of symptoms, and adherence to public health guidelines as key measures in preventing the spread of Ebola.

Representing Faith-Based Organisations, Pastor Emmanuel Mundia expressed concern about the social and cultural implications of Ebola-related deaths, noting that burial procedures for Ebola victims are conducted by trained health personnel to prevent further transmission of the virus.

He encouraged community members to fully support preventive measures and cooperate with health authorities in the event of a suspected outbreak.

Health experts informed the meeting that while Ebola is a serious disease, early detection and prompt medical treatment significantly improve chances of recovery.

Individuals who recover from Ebola are only discharged after testing negative (Twice) according to established health protocols.

The District Commissioner reaffirmed Government's commitment to safeguarding public health and called upon all stakeholders, community leaders, institutions, and residents to remain alert and work together in preventing Ebola transmission.

The meeting drew participation from the District Administration, kasumbalesa, kawama, chimfunshi, Kakoso , Milyanshi health posts representatives, Social Welfare, Immigration, ZRA, Faith Based Organisation, Water Development Office, The Local Authority, National Assembly chililabombwe Constituency Office, Lubambe, KCM, Chililabombwe District Hospital, Konkola Radio and ZANIS.
