*UPDATE TO AURORA RESIDENTS: WATER SUPPLY RESTORATION EFFORTS UNDERWAY*
Bergrivier Municipality wishes to provide an update on the current water supply challenges being experienced in Aurora, and to inform residents about the plan of action going forward.
Following detailed assessments by the appointed contractor on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, it has been confirmed that both boreholes supplying the town with potable water have failed. As a result, the Municipality has appointed a specialised contractor to drill and establish new boreholes to restore a reliable water supply to the community.
The site establishment and drilling will commence tomorrow (30 October 2025). This is a complex process, and although progress is expected the community will be informed regarding the progress.
In the meantime, the Municipality continue to fill the reservoirs today and open the water supply network tomorrow morning, allowing water to flow through the system. Households will then have access to water in their taps.
Potable water from Piketberg will continue to be supplied to the reservoirs using water tankers for this period until water supply is restored. Residents are requested to please ensure all taps are closed for the reopening of the network tomorrow morning (30 October 2025) from 08:00, to avoid unnecessary water loss.
Residents are strongly reminded to use water for essential purposes only, such as drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene. Activities such as car wash, gardening, filling up swimming pools, and other non-essential uses remain strictly prohibited until further notice. The use of grey water to flush toilets are encouraged.
Bergrivier Municipality appreciates the patience and cooperation of all residents during this period and assures the community that every possible measure is being taken to restore Aurora’s water supply as soon as possible.
