Today, as we commemorate Youth Month, we honor the courageous youth of 1976 who stood up against the oppressive Bantu Education system. Their determination and sacrifice sparked a movement that changed the course of South Africa’s history. The blood of these young lions watered the tree of freedom, paving the way for the opportunities we strive for today!
We [Ward 13] stand on the shoulders of heroes like Tsietsi Mashinini, Hastings Ndlovu, and Hector Pieterson, and many other young freedom fighters whose bravery inspired generations to continue the struggle of equality and justice. Alongside them, countless young freedom fighters made the townships ungovernable, demanding justice and equality. Their legacy lives on in every young person who continues to fight for quality education and equal opportunities.
As the ANC Youth League, we remain committed to advancing the dreams of those who came before us. Forward to quality education and opportunities for all young people! Let us never forget the power of youth to transform society.
Honouring the journey, the sacrifices, and the unity that brought us here.
