We just want to say goodbye to our manager, Henko Kleingeld. All of the staff and all of the ellies are surely going to miss you a lot :( All of the best for the future and remember that you will always remain in our hearts

Unfortunately Mopane (17 year old female) tragically passed away on Tuesday the 17th of July 2012. While free browsing with the other elephants in the bush surrounding our Sanctuary, she went to lie down in an awkward position. Once down, she had difficulty standing up. Later, back on her feet, walking towards the stables, she showed some weakness and sat down again. This time, she failed to get up. Despite our desperate efforts, Craig, the staff of our Sanctuary and our vets whom did everything in our power to save her, she passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning as a result of chronic heart failure. Following feedback from vet Brendan Tindel, further tests will be conducted to ensure that none of the other elephants are at any viral risk. We are all devastated by the sudden death of Mopane and will surely miss her.
