A quick story on John Iaquinta, aka Rocky, and “proving others wrong.” Over the years, I have been lucky that Rocky (middle) has stayed in touch with me. He is much older here, but Rocky and the Iaquinta family were one of Navy baseball’s best fans. Whenever I would look up to the stands, I could see little “Rock” watching, reminding myself to set a good example.
Rocky recently contacted me to talked about his past frustrations of getting cut from his junior year of high school. Now, he excels as a go to player at higher levels. He told me he about how he needed to “prove them wrong.” My response was “Atta boy. Prove them wrong, yes…but more importantly you owe it to yourself. Prove yourself right.”
I share this story with you to challenge you to not just “prove others wrong” but to prove yourself right. One is extrinsic in nature, the other is intrinsic. I believe that both are important to maintain proper balance but too often we look for external motivations. A paradox presents itself here…look internally to grow externally!
Thanks for adding value to me over the years Rock. I am always here to support.
