As a first time entrepreneur, the ups and downs, feelings and emotions, of trying to start a new venture are constant. This includes even picking a name and the design of a logo.

Check out LifePark's before and after. I remember drawing out LifePark in my little home in Wilmington, North Carolina and finalizing it when I lived in Johannesburg, South Africa. LifePark continues to be in development mode and hopes to launch in the near future.

Question for leaders: Are you leading or are you in the lead? While leading from the from the front (aka setting the example) is a key characteristic in leadership, it is different from just being in the lead. The intentions of a leader should not be consumed by simply being in the lead but in the essence of leading—training and developing, equipping, and inspiring others. Just because you are in the lead it doesn’t make you a leader. Are you leading or are you in the lead?

A quick story on John Iaquinta, aka Rocky, and “proving others wrong.” Over the years, I have been lucky that Rocky (middle) has stayed in touch with me. He is much older here, but Rocky and the Iaquinta family were one of Navy baseball’s best fans. Whenever I would look up to the stands, I could see little “Rock” watching, reminding myself to set a good example.

Rocky recently contacted me to talked about his past frustrations of getting cut from his junior year of high school. Now, he excels as a go to player at higher levels. He told me he about how he needed to “prove them wrong.” My response was “Atta boy. Prove them wrong, yes…but more importantly you owe it to yourself. Prove yourself right.”

I share this story with you to challenge you to not just “prove others wrong” but to prove yourself right. One is extrinsic in nature, the other is intrinsic. I believe that both are important to maintain proper balance but too often we look for external motivations. A paradox presents itself here…look internally to grow externally!

Thanks for adding value to me over the years Rock. I am always here to support.

Meet my friend, Leon Langilate. During my time in we became good friends. He is the man who works behind the scenes, connecting U.S. policy makers and experts with media in sub-Saharan Africa. Without Leon, diplomats, dignitaries, and other very important personnel can't get their messages across. Much love for him and my behind the scenes people who give other people the limelight, always serving and supporting in a humble fashion.

LifePark conducted an online survey targeting teachers who are also parents in the U.S. through a highly recommended tech-platform, Pollfish. 270 out of 300 (90%) said they were “Absolutely” passionate about developing our nation’s youth. 9% said “Sometimes” and 1% said “No.” 82% opt to read books to further develop themselves. 54% said that they would like to continue improving on engaging teaching/parenting methods and content.

Teachers and parents are huge influencers in a child’s growth and development. Thank you for all the good work you do with very minimal recognition. Also, special thanks to Jorge Server and Cathy Ricks, two wonderful teachers and parents, who helped look over the survey prior to launch.

“If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch…”

Question: Who or what do you turn to when you want to pursue a better version of yourself, having a higher level of personal integrity and behavior? Everyone has somebody or something they turn to be better…

If you don’t, Rudyard Kipling’s (1865-1936) poem, “If,” is a blueprint for personal integrity, behavior, and self-development. It seems to be more relevant today than ever.

How do you cultivate intuitive insight? There is a gap of information, and always will be, that leaders must face prior to making a decision. A leader’s intuition or “gut” is responsible for enabling or hindering them to make an effective leap, over that gap.

Have you ever experienced a manager or leader who simply doesn’t listen? Perhaps they begin to formulate their response before you finished, are not fully engaged, fail to see it from your perspective, etc. Leaders who genuinely care...listen, a fundamental basis for understanding and serving your people.

Having a proper jam session on the corner of Vilakazi Street, where Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu (two Nobel Peace Prize recipients) lived. A few days prior to departing 🇿🇦, I can say that Soweto or the South Western Township was yet another unbelievable experience here in the . Per Ardua ad Astra (“Through Adversity to the Stars” motto of the Winter Rose Rugby Football Club out of East London).
