It is with profound sadness that we bid farewell to a dedicated public servant, leader, and servant of the people. Cllr. J.S. Mochawe devoted his life to serving the community with commitment, humility, and compassion.

*ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE PASSING OF MR SANDILE JIMMY MOCHAWE*

It is with profound sadness that the Mochawe Family announces the passing of Mr Sandile Jimmy Mochawe, who passed away on Friday, 26 June 2026, at the hospital after a long illness.

Mr Mochawe was a devoted family man and a committed member and loyal supporter of the African National Congress (ANC), a movement he loved dearly and served with dedication. The family extends its heartfelt condolences to the African National Congress, whose members have also lost a dedicated comrade.

The family sincerely appreciates the outpouring of love, prayers, and support received during this difficult time and extends its heartfelt condolences to relatives, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives were touched by his life.

Family, friends, comrades, neighbours, and members of the community are informed that daily condolences and prayer services will be held at the Mochawe family home at 17:00 (5:00 p.m.), starting immediately until the day of the funeral. All are welcome to join the family in prayer and support.

Funeral and memorial service arrangements will be communicated in due course.

PUBLIC STATEMENT

Today marks another important milestone in our commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring sustainable access to water infrastructure within our communities.

The Office of the MMC of Public Works is proud to announce the successful completion and handover of the Mopholosi Secondary School water intervention project.

Following the successful intervention at Atlehang Primary School, we committed ourselves to ensuring that Mopholosi Secondary School would be next — and today we are proud to confirm that this commitment has been fulfilled successfully.

This intervention will contribute significantly towards improving access to clean water, sanitation, and a healthier learning environment for learners and educators.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Rand Water Foundation, stakeholders, technical teams, school leadership, and community members who played a role in making this project a success.

As previously communicated, the next intervention project following Atlehang Primary School was Mopholosi Secondary School. We are proud to confirm that the project has now been completed and will officially be opened this Friday.

This intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to improve access to clean and reliable water, strengthen sanitation infrastructure, and create a better learning environment for learners and educators.

The Office of the MMC for Public Works continues to implement water infrastructure interventions aimed at assisting schools, clinics, and communities affected by ongoing water supply challenges within Emfuleni Local Municipality.

The intervention project at Atlehang Primary School has been successfully completed, improving access to water and sanitation for learners and educators.

The handover of Mopholosi Secondary School is scheduled for next week as part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to providing sustainable water solutions at public institutions experiencing water shortages.

In addition, the Office of the MMC has submitted further applications for support interventions targeting more schools, clinics, and communities experiencing low water pressure and little to no water supply.

The municipality remains committed to working with stakeholders, including the Rand Water Foundation, to improve access to reliable water infrastructure and strengthen service delivery across affected communities.

Councillor MMC Tumi Mochawe would like to highlight the ongoing work currently taking place at Atlehang Primary School and Mopholosi Secondary School in Lakeside, where boreholes are being erected to address water shortages that disrupt teaching and learning.

The main objective of this initiative is to ensure that no learner is affected by lack of water, and that schools remain functional, safe, and conducive for education at all times.

We would like to sincerely acknowledge and thank Rand Water for their continued support and partnership in making this initiative possible, together with all stakeholders involved. We also acknowledge the valuable role played by Councillor Hassan Mako of Ward 37 for being part of this project and supporting its implementation.

We further extend our appreciation to the leadership of Ekujuleni Primary School, under the guidance of the Principal, as well as the Committee of Former Students, for their collective efforts in successfully erecting a borehole at the school.

This work does not stop here — we will continue rolling out this initiative to other schools to ensure that no school is left behind.

Together, we are building stronger communities and protecting the future of our children.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
From: MMC of Public Works – Cllr Tumi Mochawe

Residents of Ward 25, Ward 8 and the broader Emfuleni community are hereby informed about upcoming infrastructure repair work on the R54 road bridge.

This bridge structure was severely damaged by water erosion in 2003, resulting in significant deterioration along the edge of the roadway and creating a safety risk for motorists and road users.

In response to this long-standing issue, the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport, in partnership with the Emfuleni Local Municipality, will commence work to repair and rehabilitate the bridge.

The project will be implemented by the appointed contractor Ndlela Construction, working together with the relevant authorities.

Project details:

• Location: R54 Road Bridge (serving Ward 25 and Ward 😎
• Project duration: Approximately 8 months
• Implementing authorities: Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport and Emfuleni Local Municipality
• Oversight: MMC of Public Works – Cllr Tumi Mochawe
• Ward leadership: Councillor Mokete Tladi – Ward 25
• Contractor: Ndlela Construction

During the construction period, an alternative road will be made available for motorists to ensure continued movement of traffic while the bridge repairs are underway.

Residents and motorists are kindly requested to:

• Exercise patience during the construction period
• Follow all temporary road signage and traffic control measures
• Use the designated alternative route where necessary

This project forms part of ongoing efforts to restore critical infrastructure and improve safety for road users in Emfuleni.

UPDATE FROM MMC OF PUBLIC WORKS
CLLR TUMI SANDILE MOCHAWE

TOWN SUBSTATION – PROGRESS UPDATE

Good day residents,

Work at the Town Substation continues to make steady progress and the project remains on track.

Current technical progress includes:

• HV Yard work – 100% complete.
• BTU installation – 100% complete.
• Power cable installation – approximately 95% complete.
• Transformer MV side work – approximately 95% complete.

Due to the unavailability of the MV isolator, the team will proceed by installing a support structure as an alternative solution.

Outstanding work includes:

• Control panels and protection systems – 50% complete.
• Implementation of the differential protection scheme, wiring and testing of protection control panels is currently underway.
• Testing of protection relays and configuration settings will commence shortly.
• Positioning of the NEC on the concrete slab and connecting cables, which is awaiting completion of concrete curing.

At this stage, the team remains on track to restore power by late Friday or Saturday, provided that the remaining work proceeds as planned.

I would like to thank the technical teams from Emfuleni Local Municipality and Eskom for their continued commitment and hard work.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of residents during this period.
