COSAS Leadership Hits the Ground in Vuyisile Mini Local Municipality: Strengthening the Student Front for 2026 Elections‼️🙌

The COSAS leadership was honored to be joined by the Chris Hani District Voter Champion, Cllr.B Nobuntu, whose expertise in community mobilization adds immense weight to our campaign. The delegation was warmly received by the Executive Mayor, Cllr. K Mdleleni, whose support highlights the municipality's commitment to prioritizing the voices of its youngest citizens.

Crucially, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was present, represented by Mr. Mbelane, who provided technical guidance on the registration process and the upcoming voter education blitz.

The presence of Mayor Mdleleni and the IEC underscores a vital truth: the student voice is no longer a whisper; it is a command. COSAS is not just visiting; we are building a permanent structure of activism that stays active 365 days a year.

We thank Cllr. Nobuntu and the office of the Mayor for their open door policy. To the students of Vuyisile Mini: your time is now.

📢From Classrooms to Council: COSAS Reclaims the Youth Voice in Emalahleni‼️

In a high stakes Voter Registration Dialogue hosted by the Honorable Mayor Cllr. N.F. Koni, COSAS took a sledgehammer to the wall of youth apathy. While critics claim young people don't care, today’s engagement with learners from Tambekile, Mtirara, Cacadu, Freemantle, Mhlontlo, and Mt Arthur proved that our generation is ready to march to the polls on November 4th.

COSAS leaders tackled the "Myths vs. Reality" topic head on. We sent a clear message to every Grade 12 learner: If you aren't at the table, you’re on the menu. We reminded our peers that staying home on election day isn't a protest it’s a surrender. We are reclaiming our power to demand better schools, safer streets, and real service delivery.

The youth vote isn't a suggestion; it's a command for change.

📣The Congress of South African Students calls on every 18-year-old to register now. The revolution will be televised, but the change will be voted for.🔊

COSAS REAFFIRMS THE POWER OF THE YOUTH VOTE AT EMALAHLENI MAYORAL DEBATE

EMALAHLENI, EASTERN CAPE – The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) today participated in a high impact schools debate hosted by the Honorable Mayor of Emalahleni, Cllr. N.F. Koni, at the Freemantle Boys High School Hall. The program, centered on the theme "The Importance of Voter Registration to Young People," served as a critical platform to address the growing concern of youth apathy ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

As the leading voice for learners in the region, COSAS utilized this platform to debunk the dangerous myth that "one vote does not matter." In our address to the Grade 12 learners of Tambekile S.S.S, Mtirara S.S.S, Cacadu S.S.S, Freemantle Boys, Mhlontlo S.S.S, and Mt Arthur Girls, we made it clear: A vote is not just a mark on a paper; it is a demand for accountability and a shield against the neglect of our schools and communities.

On Youth Participation Beyond the Ballot:
COSAS further challenged the learners to look beyond the November 4th elections. Our message was firm: democracy does not end at the polling station. We called for a "365-Day Activism" model where students:
• Engage directly with Integrated Development Plan (IDP) meetings to influence municipal budgets.
• Monitor service delivery in their wards and schools through digital accountability.
• Join local decision-making structures to ensure the "youth voice" is not just heard, but implemented.

Conclusion:
COSAS commends the Emalahleni Local Municipality for involving the youth in this democratic dialogue. We remain committed to ensuring that every eligible learner is registered and that the youth of this region take their rightful place at the center of local governance.

Each One, Register One. Each One, Teach One.

The safety of our children is a fundamental right, not a luxury. The recurring nature of these "food scares" in the Eastern Cape suggests a systemic failure in food safety monitoring at the school gate level.

The presence and active participation of COSAS, including high ranking provincial leaders like Deputy Provincial Secretary U. Goniwe and PEC member A. Mafikeng, reaffirmed the "historic DNA" shared between the student and youth movements. The conference concluded with a renewed commitment to a united front, ensuring that the struggles of high school learners and unemployed youth are addressed as a single revolutionary priority.

COSAS commended the delegates for the revolutionary discipline displayed thus far, noting that the spirit of the conference reflects a shared commitment to the National Democratic Revolution.

The conference closed with a resounding call for unity. The leadership emphasized that the "festival of ideas" is over, and the time for action has begun. As delegates return to their various branches, the message remains clear: the ANCYL Chris Hani Region is back, organized, and ready to lead the youth toward a more prosperous future.
