South Africa Taekwondo Community “Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable spirit, these are the foundations of Taekwondo.”

Taekwondo is a full contact Olympic sport which has greatly progressed from its humble martial art origins in South Korea. It originates from traditional military combat techniques used by soldiers and warriors in ancient times – mainly during the Three Kingdoms Period. These sleek self-defence techniques have been meticulously refined over centuries into a competitive, elegant and efficient full contact sport. Taekwondo aims to unify one’s mental strength with physical fitness. Our uniform is the embodiment of this idea as the belt is used to keep the uniform together so an athlete’s mind must be strong enough to will their body into action and training. The sport focuses on speed, accuracy and strength while instilling sportsmanship which strives towards respecting elders and investing in the youth. Modern Taekwondo, as we know it, was first seen at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in South Korea as an opening ceremony demonstration. The sport finally debuted as an event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in Australia.

Taekwondo Community

Good Morning DSAC

I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint on behalf of concerned stakeholders within the Taekwondo community regarding the South African Taekwondo Federation (SATF), which is currently failing in its mandate to promote, administer, and grow the sport of Taekwondo in South Africa.

Since the current leadership of SATF assumed office in 2020, the Federation has consistently failed to fulfill its constitutional mandate and national responsibilities and in 2022,SATF been led solely by the President and General Secretary no other elected individual to key position. The SATF has not demonstrated a commitment to transparency, development, or the constitutional mandate it is expected to uphold. Below are the critical issues we respectfully bring to your urgent attention:

Failure to Promote Taekwondo:

SATF has not made any meaningful efforts to grow or promote Taekwondo across the country. On the contrary, they have created bureaucratic obstacles for any club or individual that attempts to do so independently.

No National Championships or Transparent Dan Promotions:

Since 2022, SATF has not hosted any official national championships. Furthermore, black belt gradings are conducted in secrecy without fair access or communication to the broader community.

No Annual General Meetings or Transparent Governance:

The Federation has not held a single Annual General Meeting since assuming office, in direct violation of its own constitution. There has been no opportunity for clubs or stakeholders to participate in democratic processes or hold the leadership accountable.

Suppression of Club Participation and Affiliation:

Currently, no Taekwondo clubs are formally affiliated with SATF due to the leadership's restrictive and exclusionary practices. Attempts to affiliate or collaborate are routinely blocked without justification.

Afternoon Master's.

I have managed to create this form https://forms.gle/Nx8U5MZoDv3yiBo7A. This is for people who are interested in taking part in the special promotions test. The aim is to get over 200 or close to 200 participants for the promotion test to be allowed and we can use this to argue our case.

Yours Sincerely
Master
