Mr Ashley !Qhoeke Sauls, a member of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training in jubilation to witness young people at work at The Foschini Group in Cape Town where the NSF is skilling more than 4000 learners to prepare them for their future.

Yesterday’s experience provided the Portfolio Committee with a glimpse of the impact the NSF is making into younger people’s lives through its programmes.

The NSF is deliberate in its work in giving young people a chance to fight for their own space in our country’s mainstream economy and this is a goal we have a duty to achieve. We owe it to the young of this country and together we will achieve.

Members of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training, led by the Chairperson, Mr Letsie and took time to engage with some of the learners at The Foschini Group in Cape Town, to understand how they are coping under the NSF funded programme. The learners were asked of their future plans beyond the programme. While some are already absorbed permanently by The Foschini Group, their plans are to run their own business and wished to be guided on how to go about it. Their questions were of a group of young people who are very determined to change not only their lives, but also those in the communities they come from.

“What we have witnessed today is quite impressive and we were happy to put the NSF’s spending of the public’s millions to the actual work on the ground and this is what we will continue to do as the Portfolio Committee. We have got a duty as the portfolio committee to ensure that our institutions are held accountable and this is one way we hold them accountable. I enjoyed interacting with the learners and what I loved the most is that the NSF programmes are biased towards the disadvantaged communities”, said Mr Ashley !Qhoeke Sauls, a member of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training.

The purpose therefore is verify what is always communicated on paper and to see the training taking place in action, but also to satisfy ourselves as the Portfolio Committee of the standard of the workshop facilities and the actual training as to whether they feet for purpose”, said the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee, Mr Letsie.
