Led by the Honourable Chairperson, Mr Tebogo Letsie the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education visited two NSF funded programmes in Cape Town. These sites are the Industries Education and Training Institute (IETI) whose training focuses on Artisanal Skill, I.e Moor Mechanic, Electrical, Refrigeration etc.
The second SDP the committee moved to is The Foschini Group in Epping whose focus is the clothing business. The video shared here was taken during the walkabout at The Foschini Group factory in Epping.
“The purpose of these visits is for Portfolio Committee to get a sense of the actual work being done on the ground. A lot of time this information comes through reports in parliament. The purpose therefore is verify what is always communicated on paper and to see the training taking place in action, but also to satisfy ourselves as the Portfolio Committee of the standard of the workshop facilities and the actual training as to whether they feet for purpose”, said the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee, Mr Letsie.
“What we have witnessed today is quite impressive and we were happy to put the NSF’s spending of the public’s millions rands to the actual work on the ground and this is what we will continue to as the Portfolio Committee. We have got a duty as the portfolio committee to ensure that our institutions are held accountable and this is one way we hold them accountable. I enjoyed interacting with the learners and what I loved the most is that the NSF programmes are biased towards the disadvantaged communities”, said Mr Ashley !Qhoeke Sauls, a member of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training.
