[IN PICTURES] The ANC-led Standing Committee on Quality of Life, chaired by Hon. Fikile Masiko, successfully concluded a planning meeting with leaders of youth formations from across KwaZulu-Natal in preparation for the 2026 Youth Parliament session, scheduled to take place on 17 June 2026 in the Ugu District Municipality.

The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen youth participation in democratic governance and create meaningful platforms for young people to engage on issues affecting their communities and future development.

This is in line with the ANC commitment to empowering the youth as active agents of change and partners in building a better KwaZulu-Natal for all.

[HAPPENING NOW] Today, the ANC-led Economic Development and Tourism Portfolio Committee, under the stewardship of Chairperson Hon. Mafika Sangweni, convenes a crucial meeting to consider the Department's 2026/27 Annual Performance Plan and Budget.

As part of its oversight responsibility, the Committee will receive detailed presentations on the Department's strategic priorities, planned programmes and resource allocations for the financial year ahead.

Following deliberations, the Committee will exercise its mandate by voting either in support of or against the Annual Performance Plan and Budget, ensuring that public resources are directed towards advancing economic growth, job creation, tourism development and inclusive transformation in KwaZulu-Natal.

Despite ongoing financial pressures, budget cuts, and unfunded salary increments, the Department of Education has made remarkable progress in strengthening its financial position by reducing historical accruals from R3.1 billion to approximately R300 million. ANC Chief Whip, Comrade Celiwe Madlopha, commended this achievement during the debate, describing it as clear evidence of improved financial discipline, accountability, and the department’s commitment to ensuring resources are directed towards improving education outcomes for the people of KwaZulu-Natal.
