Statement from Deputy Executive Mayor Zoe Tyatya, Ward 8 Councillor

Date: 13 November 2024

As the Deputy Executive Mayor and Ward 8 Councillor of Oudtshoorn, I would like to take this opportunity to address the recent concerns surrounding our municipality's swimming pools, following the statement released on October 31st.

I want to firmly reiterate that the municipality has never employed non-residents at our swimming pools, and I assure you that this will not change. It is vital for our community's well-being that our local residents are given priority in employment opportunities.

I encourage everyone to refrain from spreading false information that could incite unnecessary fear and misinformation among our residents.

Rest assured, only Oudtshoorn residents will be employed at our swimming pools. We believe in supporting our local workforce, and we are committed to ensuring that our community benefits from the opportunities created through local initiatives.

Additionally, I am pleased to inform you that our swimming pools are currently being prepared for opening, and I will announce the opening date soon. We are excited to welcome everyone back and provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work towards creating a positive environment for our community.

Warm regards,

Aldm. Zoe Tyatya
Deputy Executive Mayor
Ward 8 Councillor

BONGOLETHU, NA SMIT, BRIDGTON, AND CHURCH STREET SWIMMING POOLS ALMOST READY FOR UPCOMING SEASON

The Greater Oudtshoorn Municipality is pleased to announce that preparations for the highly anticipated swimming pool season are well underway. Our municipal team has been hard at work at preparing the town’s swimming pools, ensuring everything is in perfect condition for a safe and enjoyable season.

The Bongolethu, NA Smit, Church Street and Bridgton pools are filled and operational. This early preparation is crucial to guarantee that our systems are functioning optimally, allowing us to address any necessary repairs ahead of the season. Additionally, it gives us time to maintain water quality standards and bring the water temperature to a comfortable level before the pools open to the public.

Operational Schedule
In alignment with the decisions made during the Senior Management Meeting, these are the operating hours for swimming pools:

The daily rates for adults are R19 and R6 for children.

OPEN LATER IN NOVEMBER:
β€’ Weekends Only
o Saturday: 10:00 – 18:00
o Sunday: 12:00 – 18:00

DECEMBER to FEBRUARY:
β€’ Daily Operations (Except Christmas Day)
o Monay - Saturday: 10:00 – 18:00
o Sunday: 12:00 – 18:00

MARCH:
β€’ Weekends Only
o Saturday: 10:00 – 18:00
o Sunday: 12:00 – 18:00

We are optimistic that there will be no interruptions, but we will promptly inform the public of any unforeseen delays or changes, particularly if adjustments are required during the routine system checks or "run dry" tests.

All workers appointed for the swimming pool will be residents of the Greater Oudtshoorn.

We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to enjoy the refreshing pools and appreciate your patience as we finalize these preparations.
