OVERSIGHT VISIT TO RATLOU LOCAL MUNICIPALITY
Setlagole:- Ratlou Local Municipality: 13 August 2026: The Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Hon. Mondli Gungubele, in his capacity as the National Champion for the District Development Model (DDM) in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, for two days to conducted an oversight visit to the Ratlou Local Municipality to assess the state of service delivery and monitor progress on key infrastructure projects aimed at improving the lives of residents.
The visit focused on evaluating service delivery challenges and identifying interventions to accelerate development within the municipality. A key highlight of the programme was an inspection of the Greater Setlagole Bulk Water Supply Project, a critical water infrastructure project that has experienced prolonged delays and remains incomplete since construction commenced in 2016.
Accompanying the Deputy Minister were the Executive Mayor of Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality, Hon. Khumalo Molefe, Ratlou Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Matlhomola Jafta, as well as Ward 14 Councillor David Seitshiro and Ward 13 Councillor Valencia Jantjies. The delegation engaged with municipal leadership and project stakeholders, to obtain firsthand insights into the challenges affecting project completion and service delivery.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Gungubele reaffirmed government's commitment to the principles of the District Development Model, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts among all spheres of government to ensure the successful completion of strategic projects and improved access to essential services, particularly water supply.
The oversight visit underscores government's determination to accelerate service delivery, strengthen accountability, and ensure that infrastructure investments translate into tangible benefits for the people of Ratlou Local Municipality. In his address, the DM further emphasized the critical need to exercise accountability for deliberate failures where necessary.
