MAKHADO LOCAL MUNICIPALITY TO DELIVER 2026/27 STATE OF THE MUNICIPALITY ADDRESS AND BUDGET SPEECH

Makhado Local Municipality wishes to inform members of the media and the public that the 2026/27 State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) and Budget Speech will be delivered by the Mayor, Her Worship Cllr Dorcus Mboyi, on Friday, 26 June 2026.

The address will outline the Municipality's developmental priorities, service delivery commitments and budget allocations for the 2026/27 financial year.

Members of the media wishing to cover the proceedings are encouraged to RSVP for accreditation in advance. Please note that only accredited members of the media will be permitted to cover the proceedings. Members of the media and the public who are unable to attend physically may follow the delivery of the Budget Speech live on the Municipality's official page, Makhado Local Municipality.

Media houses and interested stakeholders may request an electronic copy of the speech following its delivery by the Mayor. Members of the media and invited guests are requested to be seated by 09:00, as the formal proceedings will commence promptly at 10:00.

Makhado Municipality Mayor, Cllr Dorcus Mboyi, today (22 June 2026) joined the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Hon. Violet Mathe, during the handover of bicycles to learners from three schools.

The initiative seeks to assist learners who travel long distances to school while promoting safer and more reliable access to education.

Thiitwa and Lumuka Secondary Schools , each received 100 shovakalula bicycles, while Mara Combined School received 36 bicycles.

MLM MAYORAL YOUTH SOCCER TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF

Makhado Local Municipality, in partnership with Venda Football Academy (VFA), is hosting the MLM Mayoral Youth Soccer Tournament, inspired by the upcoming State of the Municipal Address (Budget Speech) to be delivered by Her Worship Cll Dorcus Mboyi on Friday, 26 June 2026.

The tournament will run on 21 June, 24 June, and 27 June 2026, featuring 16 teams from the four regions of Makhado Municipality. The finals will take place on 27 June 2026, showcasing the best of local youth football talent. All matches, from the knockout stages through to the finals, will be played at Eltivillas Ground and Makhado Showground.

The initiative aims to promote youth development and talent identification, giving young players an opportunity to be scouted and possibly progress to professional football. Prominent football figures from Vhembe and beyond are expected to attend, subject to availability.

POWER OUTAGE ALERT – MARA LINE

Makhado Local Municipality hereby informs all affected residents that there is an electricity supply interruption on the Mara Line.

The affected areas include Mara farming area, Rietvlei, Madodonga, Makhitha, Tshikhodobo, Zamekomste, and Manavhela.

Municipal technicians are currently attending to the fault and working to restore electricity supply as soon as possible. The estimated time of restoration is approximately 2 hours.

The Municipality sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and urges residents to remain patient while efforts to restore supply are underway.

Please note that electricity may be restored without prior notice. Residents are therefore strongly advised to treat all electrical appliances and outlets as live and dangerous at all times.

MAKHADO MAYOR HANDS OVER NEW WASTE COMPACTOR TRUCK

Makhado Municipality Mayor, Cllr Dorcus Mboyi, officially handed over a brand-new waste compactor truck on 17 June 2026 as part of the municipality's ongoing efforts to strengthen waste management services and improve environmental cleanliness across the municipality.

The new vehicle is expected to enhance refuse collection operations, improve service delivery, and contribute towards maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment for residents of Makhado. Mayor Mboyi reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to providing efficient and sustainable services that improve the quality of life of all communities.
