Handing over of National Identity Campaign materials
Aligning with the objectives of the National Identity Campaign for promoting the issues of values, identity, diversity and integration, within schools and communities, yesterday the Northern Cape Department of Education, handed over National Identity materials to Carnarvon Primary school, in the Pixley Ka Seme District.
The campaign teaches learners the correct etiquette for national symbols through school-based activities and integrates these practices directly into the curriculum.
During the handing over of the materials on behalf of the Department, Mr Olebogeng Modise, Unit Head for, Youth, Values and Human Rights, called for the inculcation of a culture that enhances, patriotism and respect for the National Flag and Symbols and further encouraged schools to encouraged on activities activities ,such as dialogues and debates on gender-based violence,freedom,peace,democracy and values of making the school a safer place for all.
In the quest to inculcate the culture of understanding the National Identity, some of the materials handed over includes the National Flag, National Symbols Posters and the Constitution Booklet. This year marks 30 years following the birth of constitution which was adopted by the National Assembly on 8 May 1996 and signed into law by former President Nelson Mandela on 10 December 1996.
