KBL Community Food Garden Soup Kitchen. A call for support.

The KBL Community Food Garden Soup Kitchen is a collaborative project between KBL Community Forum and Under his Wings Soup kitchen. Under His Wings have been proving food to the needy in Kalbaskraal for many years. This is much appreciated by the community. We are building on this noble initiative, creating and adding new dimensions to the soup kitchen.
We are thankful to Malmesbury Sands who will provide us with some seed funding. However, our need for financial support and resources is much bigger. We have to start somewhere. With support from the community and other sponsors, we will be able to move mountains and, in some way, mitigate poverty and hunger in our community.
Having done an operational plan for 2025, we are in dire need of ingredients for the food as well as garden equipment and seed. The aim is to feed about 500 people.
Some of the key features and objectives of this project are to:
• Provide nutritious food for at least 3 days a week for those in need. A record of the beneficiaries will be kept for purposes of administration and accountability.
• Establish a food garden to produce vegetables for the kitchen and to create a market to sell some of the products. The income will be used to provide a stipend to those working for the project.
• Have popular education and training sessions for the beneficiaries of the food garden soup kitchen as well as other members of the public around:
o Food hygiene
o Patriarchy (We want to teach men how to cook)
o The importance of food security in a precarious and pandemic ridden economy.
