Happening This Morning | Oversight at Altrec Sports Centre

This morning, I conducted an oversight visit at the Altrec Sports Centre, where Johannesburg Water teams are working to repair a burst 400mm water pipe.

The burst has resulted in water outages affecting residents across several wards in Alexandra, including Wards 116, 105, 109, 108 and 107.

I am on the ground to monitor the progress of the repairs and ensure that the concerns of affected residents are addressed with urgency.

We will continue engaging with Johannesburg Water until the necessary repairs are completed and water services are restored to affected communities.

🕯️ Standing Together in Solidarity

This evening, I joined the Realogile High School community and residents of Ward 116, Alexandra, for a candlelight ceremony in support of the late Nthabeleng Mashiya, a matriculant at Realogile High School and resident of 18th Avenue.

The gathering was a solemn moment of remembrance, solidarity and support for the Mashiya family during this difficult time. 🕯️🕊️

May Nthabeleng’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may her loved ones find strength and comfort during this time of profound loss.

This morning, I joined the Office of the Speaker of Council, together with the Ward Councillor, Human Settlements, Development Planning and other relevant stakeholders, for an oversight intervention at the Bottom Compound Informal Settlement Upgrade Project in Slovo Village, Ward 53.

The engagement focused on assessing the progress of the project, beneficiary verification, community participation, the functionality of the Project Steering Committee, and the status of planning and township establishment processes.

The programme also included an oversight walkabout to assess areas relevant to the upgrading programme.

I am currently engaging with residents of 14th Avenue in Ward 116, Alexandra, in a public meeting focused on addressing the long-standing electricity outages affecting the community.

Following the City Power Imbizo held in Alexandra, I have continued to engage regularly with residents of Ward 116 on the persistent electricity challenges affecting the area. These engagements are aimed at ensuring that residents’ concerns are heard and that City Power takes the necessary steps to resolve the challenges at hand.

Tomorrow, an Oversight Visit on High-Impact Service Delivery will be conducted in Ivory Park, bringing together relevant stakeholders and communities to assess service delivery challenges, strengthen accountability, and identify practical interventions to improve municipal services.

The engagement will focus on addressing community concerns and advancing sustainable solutions across Wards 79, 77, 78 and 133.
